Delly's Deals Weekly Radio Show Notes

Thank you to our show sponsors, I Am Salon and Day Spa, and Memories of a Child. Please support these local businesses as they help make the Delly's Deals Radio Show possible! Also, check out the March specials from I Am Salon and Day Spa. Memories of a Child has TONS of great warm weather clothes right now, so if you need spring and summer wear for your kids, as well as water gear, be sure to drop by. You get an extra 10% off if you mention my name (Delly)!

Today on the Delly's Deals Radio show our main topic was "Is Couponing Unhealthy?" Callers shared their opinions on the matter and the general consensus was that each person has the power to make the right choices and not buy items that are unhealthy even if they are on sale or a great deal. I find many great deals on healthy items, too, so the coupons and deals are out there! For example, milk, all natural eggs, nuts, and tofu are some of the items I have gotten for next to nothing with my coupons.

One caller shared how he likes to donate things that he gets at a great price, even if it's not an item that he personally likes.

Also, keep in mind that even if you choose not to coupon for food, there are still many non-food items that you could get at great prices, such as personal care items, cleaning products, toilet paper, paper towels, makeup, etc!

Below are some not-to-miss deals for this week:

FREE Batteries at Staples when you use your Rewards card (pay $12.99 and get the full amount back within a month as Staples Rewards)

Gain Laundry Detergent for as little as $1.77 at Harris Teeter Saturday only. Click here for details.

Cheez-its for $.57 per box at Harris Teeter when you use this coupon and if they are on your EVIC specials list

$.99 per pound green seedless Grapes at Food Lion through Tuesday night

$.99 per container blackberries at Harris Teeter through Tuesday night

Cascade Action Pack Dish Tabs 16-20 count for $2.49 at Lowes Foods through Sunday night and use your coupon

FREE 5 ct Allegra at CVS starting tomorrow (Sunday) when you use the $7 off 1 coupon from Sunday's paper tomorrow

Click here for the $1 or less deals list from Southern Savers (Harris Teeter only)

Smart Balance Milk for $.49 per half gallon from Harris Teeter through Tuesday night after the $1.50 off coupon.

What deals are you out for?

Thank you to I Am Salon and Day Spa for giving away a $50 gift card today. Tracy Smith was our winner!

Harris Teeter Saturday Special- Gain for as little as $1.77!

Today Harris Teeter's Saturday special is 50 ounce Gain Laundry Detergent for $3.77 (limit 2). At 7 cents per ounce, that makes it an extraordinary deal! Compare that with Sams Club's price on Gain- $19.98 for 225 ounces. That comes out to 13.6 per ounce. Almost twice as much!

Of course, you know the Harris Teeter deal gets even better. I have a $.50 off one coupon that will double to $1.00 off that I plan to use AND a $1.00 EVIC digital coupon that is on my Harris Teeter EVIC page. After those two coupons come off, I will pay $1.77 for 50 ounces of Gain, which equals 3.5 per ounce! That's four times less than Sam's Club's price.

I like to point this out every few months or so. People often assume they are getting a better deal at the Warehouse Clubs and for some items this may be true. However, when I price compare, I see that the warehouse club is often more expensive than if I just bought the item on sale at the grocery store. If I also use a coupon at the grocery, the item tends to be a lot less than the warehouse club, not to mention the fees you pay for membership and the fact that people have to spend a lot more money at a time when shopping at a warehouse club. I always seem to walk out with more than I intended to go in for and sometimes found myself spending $100 + on just a few items. Then I had to go home and find somewhere to store all these huge bulk items that I overpaid for.

Switching subjects for a moment, check out my pic of my last Triple Coupons trip. I paid $14 for all these items!

Not pictured are the Davidson's All Natural Eggs that I paid $.25 each for! I really wish I had gotten into Triple Coupons week and shopped earlier because there were some items I would have bought more of. The good news is that there will always be another special week! Rumour has it that Lowes Foods will be doing Super Doubles again and of course we can expect another special week at Harris Teeter in around 6-8 weeks!

Remember, tomorrow is the first of the month, so be sure to get your Sunday newspaper. Also, look to the left of my website and go print any coupons you like because some may disappear tomorrow! They will also reset, so you should be able to print more copies tomorrow if they're still there!

$.99 Grapes at Food Lion/Frugal Tip of the Week

People often ask me how to save money on fruits and veggies. The answer is fairly simple- buy them on sale. Like most other items, fruits and veggies go on sale in cycles. They are most likely to be on sale when they are in season, so for example, I buy and eat lots of sweet corn in the summer and lots of strawberries in late spring/early summer, lots of pumpkin products in the fall. If nothing is on sale, bananas are usually a good bet :)

Even out of season, fruits and veggies randomly go on sale. Green grapes must be in season somewhere because they have been going on sale like mad in the past month!

I'm happy to see that Food Lion has their $.99 per pound green grapes on sale this week again, through Tuesday, April 3rd. What a great deal! Grapes can be so expensive, sometimes $2.79-$2.99 per pound- I refuse to buy them when not on sale. I paid $2.10 for 2.13 pounds of grapes this morning; not on sale they would have been $5.30.

I want to thank Karin R. for reminding me that grapes can be frozen and that they are such a nice treat, especially when it's hot. I plan to try that today! Also, she had another great idea- use them as ice cubes! Freeze them and then pop them into your favorite drink (I made lemonade this morning). Once your drink is gone you have a nice, sweet grape to eat!

Awesome Deal on Special K and FREE Milk at Lowes Foods!

I paid $4.29 + tax for three boxes of Special K AND a gallon of milk at Lowes Foods!
Pre-coupon and sales total would have been 15.26. Love it!

I have to give major props and thanks to Brittney F. for sharing this easy deal on the Delly's Deals FB page. I'm so sorry I did not notice it earlier, but the good news is that you still have today and tomorrow to grab it!

Basically, Lowes Foods is running a promotion where if you buy 3 boxes of Kellogs cereals you get $3 off automatically at the register. No coupon needed- love it! Naturally, you want to chose cereals that are on sale to make the deal even better. Also, if you have any coupons for the cereals the deal is even better (there are some floating around out there; look in your binder or use my database to find one).

I chose the Special K Red Berries and Regular Special K because they are on sale 2 for $5. Also, I got a Special K Oats and Honey because I had a $.70 off coupon for it and after doubling it saved me $1.40 on that box.

To make things even better, select boxes of the Special K Red Berries have coupons on them that say "$3.00 off a gallon of milk when you buy 3 boxes." I had to look through them but sure enough I found the boxes with the coupons! There were also more at the end of the aisle, too, by the way.

Since milk is on sale for $2.88 at Lowes Foods this week (already a great deal), the $3.00 off made the milk FREE! Yay! PLUS, Lowes foods let me keep the overage of $.12.

So the deal looked like this for me:

2 Boxes of Special K Red Berries/Regular: $5.00
1 Box of Special K Oats and Honey: $3.69-$1.40 coupon= 2.29
$3 Discount at the Register -$3.00
Milk- FREE after coupon on cereal

Total: $4.29 + tax!

So in the end, for $4.29 plus tax I got three boxes of Special K Cereals AND a gallon of milk for only $4.29. At some places the milk alone would have cost that much! Actually, milk is $4.19 at Lowes Foods when not on sale.

One last thing- with all the excitement about triples this week at Harris Teeter, I am regretting not paying more attention to Lowes Foods' ad because while in there today I noticed lots of great specials, including 80% ground beef for $1.97 per pound and B1G1 free personal watermelon and pineapples.

More and more I'm becoming super impressed with Lowes Foods' ads!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning!

This week there are supposed to be two inserts in each newspaper- one Red Plum and one Smart Source. However, I looked through many papers and only found one Red Plum in my Raleigh News and Observer. I was disappointed, as the Smart Source in the bigger cities this week was supposed to be really good. I did find both a Smart Source and a Red Plum in my Wilmington paper.

Below is the list of what coupons were in each of my inserts:

Raleigh Red Plum:

Dove Mens Products, Axe Mens Products, Suave Mens Hair and Body Wash, Degree for Men, Vaseline Lotion, Country Crock Spread, Hellmans, Knorr Recipe/Sauce/Gravy Mix, Lipton Recipe Secrets, Angel Soft, Goodlife for Cats, Advil, Alavert, Quaker Stila Cookie Bars and Bits, Hillshire Farm Grilled Chicken Breast, Quaker Soft Baked Oatmeal Cookies, Loreal Eye, Eyeliner, Excellence or to-Go Shade, Tennessee Pride and Hawaaiian Bread and Eggs, Folgers Coffee, Dove Products for Women, Ponds, Rhodes Bread or Rolls, Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, Hardees, McCormick Products, Perdue Oven Ready Products, HillshireFarm Rope Sausage, Sara Lee Creme Pie, Domino Agave Sugar, Bridgford Rolls or Monkey Bread, Purina Busy Chew Treats, Carbona Cleaning Products, Beggin Thick Cut Dog Treats, Wisk (nice $2 coupon)

I will say there were lots of coupons in the Red Plum Raleigh edition. Let's check Wilmington!

Wilmington Red Plum: (blue only)

Dove Mens Products, Axe Mens Products, Suave Mens Hair and Body Wash, Degree for Men, Vaseline Lotion, Country Crock Spread, Hellmans, Knorr Recipe/Sauce/Gravy Mix, Lipton Recipe Secrets, Angel Soft, Goodlife for Cats, Advil, Alavert, Quaker Stila Cookie Bars and Bits, Hillshire Farm Grilled Chicken Breast, Quaker Soft Baked Oatmeal Cookies, Loreal Eye, Eyeliner, Excellence or to-Go Shade, Tennessee Pride and Hawaaiian Bread and Eggs, Folgers Coffee, Dove Products for Women, Ponds, Rhodes Bread or Rolls, Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, Hardees, McCormick Products, Perdue Oven Ready Products, HillshireFarm Rope Sausage, Sara Lee Creme Pie, Domino Agave Sugar, Bridgford Rolls or Monkey Bread, Purina Busy Chew Treats, Carbona Cleaning Products, Beggin Thick Cut Dog Treats, Wisk (nice $2 coupon)

OK- the Wilmington Red Plum was extremely disappointing. Let's see if the Wilmington Smart Source is any better:

Wilmington Smart Source:

Blue Natural Dog or Cat Foods, Dove Fruit Crisp, Halls, Palermos Pizza, Kotex products, Reynolds Wrap and Parchment Paper, Huggies Little Swimmers, Fleischmann's Simply Homemade Bread, French's Onions, Dole Fruit Cans, Welch's Fruit Snacks, French's Worceshire Sauce, Skintimate Shave Gel, Schick Hydro Silk, White Cloud Bath Tissue, Neutrogena Face, Lip or Eye Makeup, Johnsonville Pork and Chicken Sausage, Mentos Gum, Betty Crocker Decorative Icing, NYM Haircare Products, Xenadrine Weight Loss, Pet Milk and Whipping Cream, Smithfield Bacon

I thought the Wilmington Smart Source was pretty good. In fact, I bought two copies of the Wilmington paper this week and only one Raleigh.

What did you find in your Sunday paper this morning?

Delly's Deals Weekly Radio Show Notes

Thank you to our show sponsors, I Am Salon and Day Spa, and Memories of a Child. Please support these local businesses as they help make the Delly's Deals Radio Show possible! Also, check out the March specials from I Am Salon and Day Spa. Memories of a Child has TONS of great warm weather clothes right now, so if you need spring and summer wear for your kids, as well as water gear, be sure to drop by. You get an extra 10% off if you mention my name (Delly)!

I spent the first segment going over triple coupons rules (triple 20 coupons per day, only coupons less than $1 will triple). I shared on the air some of the amazing deals that my readers have been getting this week. Hop on over to my Delly's Deals Facebook page to not only see their deals but to also share your deal. I will draw for a Deluxe Coupon Binder Kit on Monday from all who have shared a deal. Remember that you can go to www.southernsavers.com to see three different lists of many of the deals that are available this week during Triple Coupons Week.

Today we also had a special guest on the Delly's Deals Radio Show- New Hanover County Extension Service Director and gardening expert, Al Hight. He answered my and callers questions about summer vegetable gardening.

For those who are beginners to growing crops, some of the easier options are cucumbers, peppers, beans. I can certainly attest to the peppers as I had no difficulties growing them- they literally took off for me and had no problems all summer and they continued to produce into the fall. I also put them in my front flower bed where they were beautiful ornamental plants and added spectacular color.

Some of the more difficult choices would be tomatoes (interestingly, many people choose tomatoes as a starter plant when in actuality they are one of the more problematic crops to grow). One tip for tomatoes is to add calcium sulfate (found in bags at your local home garden store) when the tomatoes start flowering. This can help prevent the blossom end rot which is the grayish/brown circles under the bottom of the tomato.

Corn may be fun to grow (which I did), however from a frugal and spacial standpoint it may not be the best choice since one stalk may produce only one to two ears. Corn must also be planted in several rows at least in order to cross-pollinate. I do plan to plant corn this year in a bigger space in my backyard, as I loved the convenience of picking it when I was ready as well as the fresh and sweet taste. Here is a great article on planting corn in the backyard.

Pumpkins grow in this area too (a reader on my FB page wanted to know this). Plant your seeds in July to have pumpkins in time for October! Be sure to give yourself lots of space, as pumpkins vine all over the place and can quickly take over an area.

Something interesting that I learned was about fertilizer and adding organic matter to the soil. This is good for the garden and a product that I loved last year was "Black Cow," which I bought at Lowes (can also be found at Home Depot). It is composted cow manure but it comes in a nice bag and doesn't smell nor look nor feel like cow manure! It looks like beautiful soil and it seemed that anything that this stuff touched grew amazingly well. I bought five bags for about $5 each and simply mixed it into my soil. You can even plant young tomato seedling plants directly into the bag and they will grow right out of the bag!

One thing Al told me was that I overpaid by buying the name brand of Black Cow (I will search for coupons :)). He said off brand could be purchased for half the cost of what I paid and can be found at most home garden centers. I will certainly be looking for the off-brand if I can't find coupons for the Black Cow.

Finally, Al mentioned the fall garden, too, so I may have him back on late summer/early fall. He mentioned that lettuce is super easy and can be an enormous value to grow versus buy. For example, he paid $3 for lettuce seeds and probably ate $300 worth of lettuce this fall/winter. I'm definitely curious to learn more about fall gardening!

In conclusion, Al said that it's feasible for a family of say, five people, to do a garden for less than $100. In some ways, it depends on your infrastructure. If you are starting from scratch, say converting grass to a garden, there may be some initial expense such as renting a rototiller, but subsequent years should definitely be a lot simpler. I will say this- I did a patio garden in a former flowerbed last summer. The area was probably 3 feet by 8 feet and I was super impressed with my results. My crops did extremely well considering that I put very little money into them (never tilled, never really fertilized, minimal pesticides). This year I will spend a little more as I intend to have a bigger garden.

If the task seems daunting to you, try a container garden in pots and maybe only try one or two crops. You don't have to plant everything! Give it a shot and you may be super impressed with the results.

For more information on local gardening (here in Southeastern NC, go here to access the New Hanover County Extension Service). They can be reached by phone at 798-7660 and you can speak to a master gardener who can help answer your questions. Also, Youtube was a wonderful resource to me last year as well.

Best of luck to you with your summer garden and I will periodically update you on mine!

The Frugal Garden

I am so excited about tomorrow's Delly's Deals radio show! I will have Al Hight, Southeastern NC gardening expert and director of the New Hanover County Extension Service on as a guest to answer my and your questions about how to have a successful and frugal vegetable garden. I think doing a summer garden is an integral part to budgeting for groceries as we all know you can't beat the value of growing your own vegetables. I remember two years ago when I sent my husband to the store for a last minute tomato that I needed to complete a recipe. I was shocked when he came back with a four-pack of tomatoes and paid $4.99 for them! Three went to waste and I would have skipped it had I known they'd cost me almost $5. Last summer I bought a pack of tomato seeds from WalMart for $1.00! That pack had at least twenty seeds in it, so I imagine each plant could produce maybe 50 tomatoes? Anyhow, it's clear that growing your own vegetables is a better value.
My tomatoes were so beautiful early on. Too bad I don't eat fried green ones!

As many of you know, last summer I did my first garden. I  documented it via my blog. I was super impressed with the results and although not everything turned out the way I would have had it, I was proud of my first ever attempt to grow my own food! Not only did the veggies taste so fresh and delicious but it was a pure joy to look at the garden change everyday. The vegetable blooms were beautiful (who knew green beans bloomed purple or that zuchinni squash blossoms were big, yellow, edible flowers before turning into zuchinni). My children also LOVED that garden and checked it everyday.

My daughter, picking her ear of corn.

My daughter approved of the corn.

Last year I planted: tomatoes, zucchini squash, sweet corn, carrots, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, strawberries, green beans, cilantro, basil, and rosemary. The basil, peppers, carrots and green beans did the best. The corn produced fairly well but by mid-summer it started dying out which was disappointing. We did get about 12 good ears out of our corn and that's one thing I want to improve on this year. I want to plant it earlier and to plant WAY more! The zucchinni squash did awesome until the squash bugs got into it. They damaged the plants irreparably, so I hope to ward them off this year as the zuchinni we did harvest were so delicious. The basil was awesome- we put it in a pot and grew it from seed and had plenty all summer.

My basil was beautiful (in the pot) and the zuchinni was just about to bloom. The zuchinni flowers are giant, yellow, soft and edible. I hear they make a great soup or as a salad addition, but I did not have a chance to try this.

Are you doing a veggie garden this summer? Do you have questions? Are you a beginner like I was and slightly frightened of the prospect of doing your first garden? Have no idea where to start? Are you an expert but have one or two specific questions about your garden? Tomorrow is your chance to have your question answered by someone who truly knows the subject well. Tune in tomorrow at 10 a.m. to the Delly's Deals Radio Show on the Big Talker FM, 106.3 or 93.7 FM to hear my weekly grocery updates and my conversation with expert Al Hight!

Calling All Stockpilers- Help a Local Family

It has been on my mind to post this for several weeks now. I mentioned it on the radio show but this is the first post I have done.

Recently, a family that I knew personally lost their home in an apartment fire here in Wilmington in the Northchase Apartment Complex. The fire started in another unit and quickly spread. My friend, Melissa, escaped with her car keys, purse and two young children. In, all, twelve families were displaced.

Her children are playmates with my children. In fact, the day of the fire, she had just come over to my home to drop off three bags of clothes to give to my daughter. Her husband is a Fed Ex driver and they also have two older children. They are great people and are having to start completely over after this fire. What was not damaged by the fire was ruined by smoke, water damage and the subsequent mold and mildew that ensued in the days after the fire.

If you are at all able to donate a few items from your couponing stockpile, it would be so helpful, as their food was also ruined. I know that so often as couponers, we are extra-prepared and have items that we intend to use for the future. What a great opportunity to use our couponing to help others!

There are two ways to donate: Drop off at Memories of a Child Resale Store, at 6932 N. Market Street in Wilmington. They are easily found in the Food Lion Shopping Center behind the Aarons and Waffle House. This location is convenient to Hampstead, and North Wilmington.

The second option is to email me at delly@dellysdeals.com and let me know if you'd like for me to pick up items for you if you cannot make it to Memories of a Child. I will be scheduling a day to drive around and pick up collections of food and also any clothing (I know their daughter could use size 5/6 clothes).

I have already gotten a few generous donations and hope to receive more, as the family has expressed they will gladly share any excess items with the other eleven families who were affected.

Thank you in advance and I know they will be so appreciative!

My Favorite Triple Coupons Deals!

I paid $11.58 for these items: 2 Pampers Baby Wipes 72 count, 1 Marzetti Southwest Veggie Dip, 8 pack of Johnsonville Sausage Patties, 2 Packs of Dole Fruit Crisp (only one pictured because my son ate one), Coffeemate Natural Bliss Creamer, Archway Ginger Snaps Bag, Minute Maid Pure Squeezed OJ 59 oz.

This morning I made a quick trip to Harris Teeter for the first day of Triple Coupons week. I got there at around 9:45 a.m., so some of the things I was hoping to grab were already gone (pregnancy seems to have taken away my ability to be an early riser :)). I did grab a couple of deals though and plan to go back for more later in the week!

I spent: $11.58 (pre-total was 29.88), so I saved a little over 60%. I aim for saving at least 50%, so I was happy.

Pampers Wipes- $.64 after .$75 coupon tripled
Coffeemate Natural Bliss- .54 after .55 coupon tripled
Minute Maid Pure Squeezed Orange Juice- not on sale, but I had a $.75 off coupon- final price-  $1.44
Dole Fruit Crisp- not on sale, but I love these. After $.50 coupon tripled I spent  $1.09 each
Johnsonville Sausage Patties- not on sale but after $.75 tripled, they were 1.64 which is good

Overall, this definitely wasn't my most impressive grocery trip ever, but I hope to make a second trip later. Hopefully some of the items I want will be in stock!

How was your triple coupons experience? Share it on my Facebook page for a chance to win a Complete Delly's Deals Designer Coupon Binder Kit!

Neosporin Freebies and Money Maker at Walgreens

Did you notice the FREE Neosporin deal going on Essentials Trial Pack Deal going on right now at Walgreens? I think Neosporin is something that pretty much everyone can use so I was excited to see this deal. Here's how it works.

The trial pack is on sale for $12.99. You can use this coupon to get an additional $5 off! So at the register, you will pay $7.99 plus tax.

Then, there is a simple rebate form to print online at www.neosporinessentials.com/freebate. Go there, print and fill out the form and mail it in by April 15th and you will receive a rebate check in the mail for $12.99. Thus, you come out $5 ahead, having made $5 on the deal.

It is a little extra work than normal, having to deal with the rebate, but to make $5 off the product I will probably go through with it! Be sure to get a rain check if they are out because you can still do this deal and pay the sale price next week if you grab that rain check.

One question I always get is, "Will the company give me the full rebate even though I only paid $7.99? Won't they only refund me $7.99, then?"

My experience with these rebates has been that I always get the full price regardless of any coupons I redeemed. So, unless this time is different, you should still get the $12.99 back, even if you use a coupon to pay less than that.

Let me know how it turns out for you!

PS- Other Walgreens freebies this week include The 14-day Acai Berry Fat Burn Cleanse. Pay $10 and Walgreens will immediately give you a $10 Register Reward back at the register.

Also, get free Mars candies (single size 1.1 to 2.17 oz) such as Snickers or M&Ms. They are on sale 2 for $1, so you must buy two. If you use $1.00 off 2 coupon from Sunday's paper (March 18th), you get both candy bars for free!

Reach toothbrushes and toothpastes are on sale for $.99 (if you give them the in-ad coupon found on page 12 of the Walgreens flyer) so after I use the $1.00 off coupon from the March 4th Red Plum insert, those will also be free.

Finally, I will probably grab the Carefree pantiliners, as they are on sale for $.99. After I redeem my $1.00 off coupon from Sunday's paper, they will also be free.

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning! Daylight savings time had me missing in action last week! I got up late and by the time I arrived to the store there were no Raleigh papers left! So I did not do a review last week.

This week I was up and at it again and I found two inserts in each newspaper- both had a Red Plum and a Smart Source. As usual, the Raleigh newspaper had more of a variety than the Wilmington paper but you can decide for yourself if it's worth the extra hassle of going for the Raleigh paper today! Below are what coupons I saw in each.

Raleigh Red Plum had coupons for the following:

Catherines plus size clothes, Loreal Paris Skincare, Loreal Paris Revitalift, Loreal Shade of Preference, Suave Body Lotion, Suave Naturals (Mens or Kids Body Wash), Suave Deoderant, Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Kit, Suave Professionals Styling Product, Suave Professionals Shampoo or Conditioner, Suave Scalp Solutions, Starburst, Life Savers or Jellybeans, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Dipps or Smashbar, Mars Easter Products, Pringles Cans, Pringles Snack Stacks, Sundown Vitamins, Domino Sugar, Domino Brown or Confectioners Sugar, Domino Agave Nectar, Alka Seltzer, Nivea, Purina Friskies Treats, Purina Friskies Plus or Indoor Wet Cat Food, Purina Friskies Canned or Pouches Cat Food, Purina Mighty  Dog Food, Covergirl Lip or Eye Product, Covergirl Tone Rehab Foundation, Gain Laundry Products, Scope, Season Skinless and Boneless Sardines, Jimmy Dean Bowls, Mardi Gras Napkins.

As you can see, the Wilmington Red Plum was pretty sparse; however, neither was too exciting for me this week as I noticed they were loaded with pet food coupons and hair and make up product coupons that I do not use. Maybe you do, though! On do the Smart Source!

Raleigh Smart Source Insert had coupons for the following:

Until next week......!

Today on the Delly's Deals Radio Show our main topics were Triple Coupons Week and Budgeting.

I suggested that everyone start with a budget. That way, you know whether you are accomplishing your monthly goals regarding spending. If you are a beginner couponer, your budget can be a little higher and you can work to lower it.

One suggestion is $100 per person in your family per month. So if there are 2 people in your family, your budget would be $200 per month for groceries. I have a separate eating out budget.

You could make it your goal to lower it to $75 or even $50 per person per month, which will be easier as you build a stockpile of deals.

Triple Coupons Coming up Next Week on Wednesday at Harris Teeter! Click here for Jenny's first list of all the great deals and start pulling those coupons. I place mine in an envelope labeled "Triple Coupons."

I shared some of my favorite drug store deals of the week. I got the Zyrtec and Coke from CVS, and Schick Razors and Rite Guard Bodywash from Walgreens. See my previous posts for explanations.

If you are interested in hosting a couponing workshop for your church or group, give me a call! You may be able to earn a couponing binder as well as money for your group!

Easy Walgreens Deal- $.24 Right Guard Total Defense Men's Body Wash!

Here's an easy deal that you can grab through today at Walgreens. Remember, if they are out of an item, grab a rain check and do the entire deal another week.

First, you need to print TWO copies of this coupon. The coupon says $2 off 2 Total Defense Anti-Perspirant, Deoderant, or Body Wash.

Then you need to buy FOUR of the body washes. They are on sale for B1G1 Free, so you will get two of them for free.

Your total will ring up to $4.98 (not sure if this includes tax) but you will then get back $4 Register Rewards from Walgreens! You can use those towards something else in the store on your next trip or immediately.

I love it! I plan to do the Schick Razor Deal (see previous post) and then use those Register Rewards to pay for my body wash! Or I may do it in reverse- either way I earn $4 in Register Rewards when I'm done. Also, seeds are on sale at Walgreens this week so I hope to grab a few packs for my garden!

I'll update on how the deal turned out once I've done it! Thanks to Whitney from Kouponing with the Kerlers for pointing out this great deal.!

Walgreens- Cheap Razors Abound- Get Yours this Week!

One of my favorite things about doing drug store deals is getting nice, quality, name-brand razors for a fraction of the normal cost. In fact, I like to joke about how before I couponed, my husband got the cheap-o dollar store razors! Now that I coupon, there are times where I pay less than a dollar for the fancy razors!

Walgreens has a great deal on razors this week. It's even better if you have a coupon or if you have Register Rewards from last week that you can roll over into the transaction for this week. Below is an explanation of the deal:

Schick Hydro Razor (men) or Schick Hydro Silk (women) is on sale for $9.99

When you buy one, you get back $4 in Register Rewards (Walgreens money) that you can spend on a future purchase.

You can also use a coupon from the newspaper to bring down your out of pocket cost. There was a $2 off the mens and a $4 off the women's razor in the Feb. 26th Smart Source Coupon Insert from the Sunday paper.

So here's what the transaction looks like:

Women's Razor
$9.99
minus $4 off coupon
$5.99
minus my $5 in Register Rewards from last week
$.99 for the razor!
After I pay, I will get back $4 in Register Rewards! So I have made $3.01!

Men's Razor
$9.99
minus $2 off coupon
$7.99
minus my $5 in Register Rewards from last week
$2.99 for the razor!
After I pay, I will get back $4 in Register Rewards! So I have made $1.01!

You can save the $4 in Register Rewards that you earn this week for next week or redeem it immediately for something else that you need.

Final note- you can do this transaction as many times as you want at Walgreens, provided you don't use the same Register Reward that you earned for the razor to try to earn another razor Register Reward. If you do, it won't print out! So you may want to alternate transactions.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email at delly@dellysdeals.com!

Don't Forget Your $.49 All-Natural Eggs!

I reminded everyone about this on Saturday in my radio show notes and also on my Facebook page, but I wanted to send one final reminder that the awesome deal on eggs at Harris Teeter ends today.

The Land O Lakes Brown Cage Free Eggs are on B1G1 sale through tonight. If you combine that with this coupon (you can even print two copies) you get your eggs for only $.49 per dozen!

Thanks to Tracy at Smith Savings for pointing out this awesome deal!

FREE Zyrtec Money-maker and Cheap Coke 12-packs at CVS!

*Update- the $2.00 off coupon that I reference below is now sold out, but you can still do the deal even without a coupon.

CVS does this every few months or so and with allergy season upon us I am so happy to see it!

This week, through Saturday night, you can get the 5-count Zyrtec for $5.99. Immediately upon paying, you receive $5.99 back in Extrabucks (attached to the end of your receipt). You can use these Extrabucks like CVS "play money" to purchase anything else in the store except lotto, alcohol, tobacco products or pharmacy drugs. Some people use them right away to buy items in a second transaction; others save the Extrabucks for the following week. They expire in about 2-3 weeks, so I personally like to use them sooner rather than later.

The great thing is that if you use a coupon on the Zyrtec (here's one for $2.00 off a 5 count), you pay only $3.99 but still get the $5.99 in Extrabucks back. How cool is that?! It turns into a money-maker for you!

Zyrtec- $5.99
Minus $2.00 off coupon
Total- $3.99 plus tax
After paying you receive $5.99 back in Extrabucks
Final Result: You MADE $2.00 in this transaction!

Also worth noting at CVS this week is the 5 for $15 Coke 12 packs deal. Buy 5 Coke 12-packs for $15. After you pay you will receive $5.00 back in Extrabucks, thus making the price really 5 for $10. That's already a great deal.

But what if you did the Zyrtec deal above and then immediately used the Extrabucks that you earned from the Zyrtec to pay for your Coke?

Buy 5 Coke product 12-packs for $15
Minus $5.99 in Extrabucks that you earned from the Zyrtec deal
Pay $9.01 plus tax
Get back $5.00 in Extrabucks
Final Result: You got 5 Coke 12-packs for $4.01!

I love doing CVS deals! With Easter coming up, this might be a good opportunity to volunteer to bring the soda at your family gathering this year!

Delly's Deals Weekly Radio Show Notes

Thank you to our show sponsors, Medical Simplicity, I Am Salon and Day Spa, and Memories of a Child. Please support these local businesses as they help make the Delly's Deals Radio Show possible! Also, check out the March specials from I Am Salon and Day Spa. I am so there! Also, please take a moment to watch this short, informative video from Dr. Tom on how we can lower the cost of healthcare!

This week on the Delly's Deals radio show I shared some of my favorite weekly deals. Check out the Delly's Deals Facebook Page to print some great coupons to match those deals.

We did a trivia question about what company did the first coupon ever- Coca Cola! Click here to read about it and to see a picture of what the first coupon looked like! Our winner was Jennifer Gore who won a $50 gift certificate to I Am Salon and Day Spa.

Save on staples- Harris Teeter has a great price on milk this week; only $2.97 a gallon and you can get Cage Free Eggs for only $.49 a dozen from Land O Lakes this week at Harris Teeter if you print this great coupon!

Also be sure to grab the Walgreens freebies this week (see my earlier post from this week). Get free Saline Spray and make $.75 on Colgate Pro Sensitive Relief.

Here are links to the weekly deals!

Easy Walgreens Money-Makers and Freebies!

I made $.75 purchasing these items. Total Value: $11.48!

I dropped by Walgreens this morning and grabbed two quick freebies. Both can be done without coupons but in order to make it a money-maker you will need one coupon.

The first was free Colgate Total Advanced. It is normally 3.49 but it's on sale at Walgreens through Saturday night for only $3.00. The best part is that you get a $3.00 Register Reward back after you pay, making it essentially free! For those who are unfamiliar, Register Rewards are printed out after you pay, shaped like a rectangle, and they are like money at Walgreens. They can be used to purchase anything in Walgreens except prescriptions, alcohol, tobacco, lottery or stamps. Some Harris Teeter locations will accept Register Rewards, too, although this seems to be hit or miss.
This is a Walgreens Register Reward. Don't throw it away- it's like money!

The deal gets even better if you have the $.75 off Colgate Total Advance coupon from the paper a few weeks back. If you do, you only pay $2.25 (plus tax) for the toothpaste but you still get back $3.00 in Register Rewards to spend! In this case, you end up making $.75!

The other easy deal is for Walgreens Nasal Mist Spray. I love this stuff for when I have a cold and my nose is irritated. It's non-medicated and great for cold relief. Normally is is $7.99 when not on sale. The name-brand costs $9.99. This week it's on sale for $5.00 and after you pay, you immediately get back $5.00 in Register Rewards! It doesn't get much easier than that!

So I bought both items and paid in two separate transactions. This is what I did:

Transaction #1
Colgate Total Advanced 4 oz Toothpaste- $3.00
minus my $.75 off coupon=
$2.25 plus tax out of pocket
I got back: $3.00 in Register Rewards

Transaction #2
Walgreens Nasal Spray 4.25 oz- $5.00
minus my $3.00 in Register Rewards=
$2.00 plus tax out of pocket
I got back: $5.00 in Register Rewards

Total Out of Pocket: $4.25 plus tax
Total Register Rewards Remaining: $5.00!
Total Value Purchased: $11.48

Summary: Essentially I made $.75 AND got $11.48 worth of product for free!

I will be doing a drug store deals workshop this Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 or 3:00 p.m. at NE Regional Library in Wilmington. If you'd like to learn more about how to get great deals at drug stores on your medicines and other items, join me and get $2.00 off for bringing a friend. RSVP here!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning! It's the first of the month and that means one thing- lots of coupons in the Sunday paper. People were up and out early, too. By the time I got there (7:45) most of the Raleigh papers were gone. I checked another gas station and they were already sold out.

Raleigh was supposed to have all three inserts- Red Plum, P&G and Smart Source. Mine, however, did not have the Smart Source and I checked many papers. My Wilmington Star News had all three inserts in it, albeit thinner versions.

Below is a list of what coupons came in my inserts this week!

Wilmington Star News

Smart Source Insert

Dr. Scholls, Campbells Soups, Mean Green Cleaner, Freschetta Pizzas, Jergens, Curel, Ban, John Freida, Biore, John Freida Precision Foam, Tyson Anytizers, Science Diet Pet Food, Smart Balance Milk, Bailey's Creamers, Chuck E Cheese

Red Plum Insert

Paseo Bath Tissue and Facial Tissue, Emerald Nuts, Osteo-Bi Flex, Loreal Cosmetics, Loreal Paris Skincare, Zyrtec, Dole, On0Core Family Entrees, Rosina Meatballs, El Monterrey, Birds Eye, Jimmy Dean Delights, Jose Ole Taquitos, Zatarain's, Goody's, BC, All Laundry Detergent,

Raleigh News and Observer

Red Plum Insert

Paseo Bath Tissue and Facial Tissue, Emerald Nuts, Osteo-Bi Flex, Loreal Cosmetics, Loreal Paris Skincare, Zyrtec, Dole, OnCore Family Entrees, Rosina Meatballs, El Monterrey, Birds Eye, Jimmy Dean Delights, Jose Ole Taquitos, Zatarain's, Goody's, BC, All Laundry Detergent, Whiskas Dry Food for Cats and Whiskas Trays, Cesar Treats for Dogs, Pedigree, Maybelline Mascara, Listerine, Reach Toothbrush, Reach Floss, Bnegay, Brawny, Ball Park Angus Products, Ball ark Products, Mars Easter Candies, McCormick Perfect Pinch Seasoning Blend, Pop Tarts Mini Crisps, Pop Tarts, Ester-C, Kelloggs Cereals (any), Snuggle, Colace, Marvel Vitamins, Mrs. T's Pierogies, Baskin Robbins

There was also a P&G insert in each paper that was the same.

Overall, the coupons this week were average. I've seen better and I've seen worse, but they were still worth getting. If you can't find the Raleigh paper, the Wilmington wasn't too bad.

Until next week.....
