Weekly Grocery Store Deals!

It's Wednesday and that means one thing around here- new grocery store sales! Click on your preferred grocery store below for a list of the deals at each store. You can click the boxes to make your own printable grocery store shopping list!

Keep in mind that I also look at the store flyer each week. There's nothing like seeing those deals on paper and you may find a deal that isn't mentioned below.

There are several promos going on this week worth mentioning. Harris Teeter is doing a Lysol sale (use the matching coupons from recent newspapers), and a General Mills/Betty Crocker/Box Tops Promo where you can get 50 bonus boxtops when you buy 8 select General Mills items. Since I have a little one in school and matching coupons, I will definitely be taking advantage of that promo. Finally, they have a Johnson and Johnson sale going on too, and I know there were matching coupons for those sales in last week's newspaper.

Food Lion is doing their private label sale where you get a quarter off for every purchase of a Food Lion My Essentials brand product, minmum of four (save $1) and maximum of 40 (save $10). You can get cat food and biscuits pretty cheap doing this, but this is a good time to get any private label items that you might use from there. I like the strawberries for $2.50, too and the BOGO on Froot Loops and Corn Pops, for which there are available coupons, too.

Finally, I didn't see anything too crazy at Lowes Foods but I do like how I can use the three-week coupons there from the past week. They last through January 24th. Also, their strawberries are on sale 2 for $5 and Lowes Foods brand veggies are $.48 each, limit 6. Drumsticks and thighs are on sale for $.97 a pound and that is a good price.

$2.99 Tuesdays are Back!

If you've never been in the Fresh Market grocery store near Mayfaire off of Military Cutoff Road, you are certainly missing out on indulging your senses! While I love going into the Fresh Market and admiring their beautiful displays of fresh fruits, meats, seafood, specialty groceries and hot foods section, it is not a place that my budget will allow me to shop often.

However, even the Fresh Market realizes that people like a good deal and I have noticed them offering more specials lately, possibly due to the coming arrival of Whole Foods and Trader Joes in Wilmington. I was informed by a Fresh Market cashier that they do take manufacturer's coupons there and while walking around the store I did notice some sales. While some of their fruit was expensive, other items that were on sale were comparable to what I'd pay at a regular grocery store but the Fresh Market fruit always looks much nicer. I'm not sure if they have a sales flyer; I did not look as I specifically went in for the $2.99 Tuesday special last week but I will look for a flyer when I go in today.

Something that they are doing in January is $2.99 Tuesdays. On Tuesday only, you can go in and get fresh ground chuck for only $2.99 per pound, antiobiotic-free, vegetatrian-fed chicken breast for $2.99 per pound and RSBT hormone free milk for $2.99 per gallon (limit 4 gallons). These are great prices on some essential items that are all high-quality foods. I bought the ground chuck last week and it was so fresh and delicious. I love the way they wrap it, too. I'm actually planning all of our Tuesday night dinners in January around $2.99 Tuesdays, so each Tuesday night we will eat something involving ground beef. Last week it was lasagne; I think tonight will be cheeseburgers!

By the way, $2.99 per gallon is an excellent price on milk in general, so the fact that this is hormone free milk just takes the cake. See my article where I shared the high price of milk from Food Lion back in September. Milk there was $4.49 a gallon when not on sale!

If you do love the Fresh Market and specialty items but you're shopping on a budget, my tip is to follow their sales because they do have some. Just like with many grocery stores, if you go in and buy things that are not on sale, you will break the bank, but if you use their cyclic sales each week you will find that many of the items you need do go on sale at some point.

Happy $2.99 Tuesday!!!

Lowes Three-Week Coupons

If there is a Lowes Foods near you, you should hop in by tomorrow night (Tuesday, January 10th) and grab a couple of copies of the sales flyer. This week only you can get special three-week coupons that can be used at Lowes Foods (see pic below). These are store coupons, specifically offered by Lowes Foods. That means they can also be used in conjunction with manufacturer's coupons on the same item.

In this past Sunday's paper, there was also a special Box Tops/General Mills/Betty Crocker coupon insert that had lots of manufacturer's coupons that matched the same Lowes Foods Store coupons (see below). Sometimes it seems like they plan these things in OUR favor! We just have to pay attention and notice it!

Lowes Foods also offers digital coupons on their website, www.lowesfoods.com. In addition, digital coupons can be had via www.cellfire.com, another site that offers Lowes Foods specific coupons. In most cases, you can use a digital coupon, with a store coupon AND with a manufacturer's coupon, all on one item. This is called stacking.

I went to Lowes Foods yesterday and did this and got a few great offers. See my deals below (I already know these weren't the healthiest items but I have to splurge every now and then):

Toaster Strudels
Sale Price: 2.50
Lowes Store Coupon Special Price: 2 for $4
Manufacturer's Coupon .50 off (this doubles to $1.00 off)
Digital Coupon: none
Final Price: 2 for $3.00 (a decent deal- $2 less than usual)

Simply Gogurt Kids Yogurt (no artificial colors or flavors)

Sale Price: 2 for $5.00
Lowes Store Coupon: 2 for $4
Manufacturer's Coupon $.75 off 2 (doubles to $1.50 off)
Final Price: 2 for $2.50 ($1.25 each)- saved 50%

Totinos Pizza Rolls

Sale Price: $1.00 each
Lowes Store Coupon: none
Manufacturer's Coupon: $.40 off one (this doubles to $.80 off)
Digital Coupon: $.40 off
Final Price: made $.20!

Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks

Sale Price: $2 each
Lowes Store Coupon Buy 4 save $2 (I bought four so it cost me $6)
Manufacturer's Coupon: $.50 off 2- doubles to $1.00 off (I used two of these since I bought four boxes)
Final Price: $4 for 4 ($1.00 each)- saved 50% off sale price and even more off the regular price

Honey Nut Cheerios/Cocoa Puffs
Sale Price: 2 for $5

Lowes Store Coupon: 2 for $4
Manufacturer's Coupon: $1.00 off 2
Final Price: $1.50 each- not the best ever but still pretty good price for cereal

Even if you don't have time or interest in shopping Lowes Foods this week, go ahead and get the store flyer with the three week coupons and save them in your binder. The coupons can be used through January 24th but they are only available in the store this week (through Tuesday night)!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Wow! All I can say is that I hope noone misses out on today's paper because it is loaded with coupons! Many of them are high-value food coupons, too, some of which you still have time to double this week with Harris Teeter Super Double Coupons Week!

One goodie was the Smart Balance coupons that came in BOTH papers. They included the Smart Balance milk coupons for $1.50 off, which double to $3.00 off, meaning you can get free milk this week at Harris Teeter! That's a deal you don't want to miss, especially you use Lactose-free like we do.

My Raleigh News and Observer had FOUR great inserts, while my Wilmington Star News had three inserts. The Raleigh inserts appear to be thicker than the Wilmington inserts, so at first glance I will say that it appears that Raleigh is definitely a better bet this week. Let's take a further look!

My Wilmington had two Smart Source inserts and one Red Plum. The Red Plum contained coupons for: Truvia, Suave products, L'Oreal Hair Color, Jif/Smuckers combo coupon, Perdue Simply Smart Chicken coupons, Emerald Nuts, and a Manwich/Sara Lee Combo coupon. It was pretty thin.

In contrast, the Raleigh Red Plum had all of the above PLUS Kibble n Bits, Axe Men's Products, Maybelline, DelMonte Fruit Cup Snacks, Dove Dark Chocolate, Temptations Cat Treats, 9 Lives Cat Food, Uncle Bens Rice, Quaker Granola Bars, Kelloggs Cereals, Met-Rx Big 100 Protein Bars, Jimmy Deans Delights and Sausage, Nature's Bounty Vitamin, Pure Protein, Newman's Own Dressing, Deer Park Water, and Healthy Life Bread. In the Red Plum department, Raleigh definitely wins!

On to Smart Source. Both papers had TWO Smart Source inserts, so let's look at the first Smart Source. The first Wilmington Smart Source had coupons for EatSmart Naturals Snack, Mueller's Whole Grain Pasta, Shick Disposable Razors, Boca Burgers, Bob Harper's Weight Liss, Mariani Dried Fruit Snacks, Birds Eye Steamfresh Chef's Favorites, Finish Dishwashwer Cleaner and Rinse Agent, Cepacol, Mitchum, Schiff Move Free, Deslyn cough relief, Tyson Grilled Chicken, Dentek Floss, Harmony Farms Dry Dog and Cat Food, Monistat, EPT, Cream of Wheat.

In contrast, the Raleigh Smart Source had all of the above PLUS Ken's Dressing, Barilla Pasta, Nature's Bounty, Pom, Method Laundry Product, Excedrin, Prevacid, Gas X, Benefiber, Maalox, Glucerna, Alpo, Jell-O, Dole Fruit, Valley Fresh Natural Chicken Breast, Hormel Sandwich Meat, Hershey's Kisses, Purina Beggin Strips, Trident, Nabisco, BIC Razors, Planters Nuts, Scrubbin Bubbles, Mitchum, Afrin, Ocuvite, Monistat, Zest, Airborne, Resolve, Chichi's Salsa and Tortillas, Kemps Frozen Yogurt, Sunny D, Tetley Tea, Dole Frozen Fruit.

The other Smart Source had coupons for:

Wilmington paper: Post it, Dole Real Fruit Bites, Scotch-Brite, Nature Made Fish Oil, Campbells, Swanson, Science Diet Dog and Cat food, Red Lobster.

Raleigh Paper: All of the above (minus the fish oil) plus Splenda, Lactaid pills, Viactiv, One Touch Diabetic monitor, Listerine, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, Aveeno, Roc C Anti-aging, Desitin, Band-Aid, Johnsons and Johnsons, Listerine for Kids, Reach toothbrush, Rogaine, Lubriderm, Stayfree, Carefree, OB, Visine, Bengay, Cortaid, Neosprorin, Green Works, Marzetti, BIC, Fruity Pebbles Treats, Prego, Pepperdige Farms Bread, Land-o-Lakes, Schiff Move Free, Dulcolax, Mueller's Whole Grain Pasta, Phillips Soniccare.

Raleigh also had a BONUS insert with lots of General Mills products including Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, General Mills Cereals, Progresso Panko Bread Crumbs, Nature's Valley Granola Bars, Chex Mix, Fiber One Bars, Milk n Cereal Bars, Yoplait Smoothie, Totinos Pizza Rolls and Pizza, lots of Pillsbury coupons, Toaster Strudels, Yoplait, Hamburger Helper, Progresso Soups, Green Giant, Gogurt, Yoplait Light Yogurt.

I think it's obvious that the Raleigh paper is the best bet today! Get one early and see my link to the right to find it in your nick of the woods.

My First Super Doubles Trip

Pictured: Bounty Paper Towels, Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal, 3 Smart Balance Lactose Free Milk Half-Gallons, Gorton's Grilled Tilapia, Four Nivea Chapsticks, 2 Aquafresh Whitening Toothpaste, Chobani Greek Yogurt, Fresh Strawberries, International Delight Hazelnut Creamer 24 pack, 2 Packs of Starkist Tuna, 2 Pouches of Betty Crocker Potatoes, V8 Smoothie Juice Drink, Chobani Champs Kids Greek Yogurt, 2 Packs of Wholly Guacamole, POM Juice, Crest Pro-Glide Floss
Total spent: $5.68 (see receipt below)!!!

I went to Super Double Coupons this morning at Harris Teeter. As many of you know, my husband leaves for work at 8 a.m. and gets home at 6 p.m. I prefer not to take my children into the store so that usually means one thing- shop early or shop late! Today I chose to shop early so I could take advantage of the great deals.

My favorite freebies were the Smart Balance Milks (I bought three), Bounty Paper Towels and the Nivea Chapsticks (I was just about to run out of chapstick). I also got two packs of Starfish Tuna for free as well as a freebie I wasn't expecting but found in the store- the free V8 Smoothie drink which was free after this coupon. You can print the coupon twice, too!

FREE Items after coupons:
Smart Balance Milk
Nivea Lip Care
Crest Glide Floss (used paper plus digital)Bounty Single Roll Paper Towels
Betty Crocker Potatoes
V8 Smoothie Drink
2 Aquafresh Toothpastes

Other Items:
Wholly Guacamole ($.50)
Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal ($.50)
POM Juice ($.50)
Chobani Greek Yogurt ($.40)

One tip I give is to redeem the coupons you want to double first. I have been told that the machine counts all coupons towards your 20 doubling coupons limit, including the ones that will not double. For example, I redeemed my $3 off 2 Nivea Lip care coupon last. Since they were on sale for 2 for $3, I got it free without the coupon even having to double. It was free at face value. For this reason, I saved it until last because I wanted to save space for my doubling coupons at the beginning.

Also, if you have the $1.50 off Smart Balance coupon, use it today since it expires today, January 4th (mine did).

One note- I did redeem a $5 Walgreens coupon during this trip. Those are allowed at Harris Teeter, since Harris Teeter takes competitors coupons for money off the total order only (not specific items from other stores). Some Harris Teeters will allow it; others will not. Some say the store must have a pharmacy to be a competitor with a drugstore and the Harris Teeter I shopped this morning did have a pharmacy.

Finally, there were lots of digital coupon match-ups along with the paper coupons, so be sure to check your Harris Teeter EVIC email and click any digital coupons you like so that you can use them alongside of your paper coupons. This is one way to stack coupons at Harris Teeter and thankfully, Harris Teeter allows stacking of digital (EVIC) and paper coupons.

Hop on over to the Delly's Deals Facebook page and share your great deals this week with us all!

Happy New Year! Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning and Happy New Year!

This morning my Raleigh News and Observer had one Red Plum insert and two Smart Sources. My Wilmington paper had one Red Plum, one Smart Source and one Proctor and Gamble.

I found it odd that my Raleigh Newspaper did not have the Proctor and Gamble insert.......I checked several to be sure. This was at the Kangaroo on Gordon Road.

The Wilmington Red Plum was loaded with advertisement sheets and few coupons. Both Red Plums from each newspaper had lots of Loreal coupons for makeup. The Raleigh Red Plum had Pedigree dogfood coupons, Nivea product coupons, Snuggle fabric sheets, Poligrip, StarKist tuna, Knorr Homestyle Stock, tons of Vitamin coupons, Nicorrette gum, Robitussin, Dimetapp, Hefty bags and waste bags, Aquafresh, Biotene, Keebler 100 calorie bites, and Special K Cereal coupons (four different types). The Raleigh Red Plum was definitely a better bet!

The Wilmington Smart Source had pretty good coupons- about the same coupons as the Raleigh Smart Source, although the Raleigh Smart Source did have a great $1 off Wholly Guacamole coupon and a Glucerna coupon. Both Smart Sources had Tostitos, Sargento Cheese, Lysol coupons, and Air Wick coupons. The Raleigh paper had some additional food coupons such as Gorton's fish, Slim Fast and Chef Boyardee and Healthy Choice soups.

Finally, the Raleigh paper had an additional Smart Source. This contained Lean Cuisine coupons, Boost drinks, Carnation Drinks, Purina dogfood, Softsoap, V8, Palmolive, Colgate, Mentos gum (use the $.55 to get free gum), Vitamins, Aleve, Icy Hot, Bayer, Rubbermaid, Gold Bond, Similasan, Selsun Blue, and Playtex.

Overall, I would say both papers today had their bonuses. If you can find a Raleigh paper with the Proctor and Gamble insert, I would definitely go with the Raleigh. If yours is missing the Proctor and Gamble insert, then I'd suggest getting the Wilmington newspaper, too, so that you can get the Proctor and Gamble.

*UPDATE- it appears that in Leland (according to people from my Facebook page) that they have all inserts, including P&G in the Raleigh paper, so if you're in Leland, the best bet is definitely the Raleigh paper!

Until next week.......!
