Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning!

I was very happy with the selections of coupons in today's paper, particularly the Raleigh News and Observer. My Raleigh paper had three inserts- 2 Smart Source and one Red Plum, while my Wilmington paper only had one Red Plum. As we've all seen, this can vary from store to store, even within a city, so let me know if you saw something different.

Raleigh Red Plum

Whiskas Cat Food, Right Guard Products, Various Loreal Hair and Skincare Products, Crave Cat Treats, Black Flag Products, Aquafresh for Kids, Dunkin Donuts, Maybelline Makeup, Superpretzel, Deer Park, Gain Detergent, Gain Fabric Enhancer, Gillette Disposables, Dermasilk, Ball Park Angus Franks, Ball Park Products, Zatarains Rice, Zatarians Frozen Entrees, Keebler Chips Deluxe, Nutrigrain Bars, Osteo Biflex, Sundown, Centrum, Pronutrients Supplements, Real Simple Magazine, Sinus Buster or Allergy Buster, Marcal Paper Products, Nivea Lotions, Face Care, Body Products, and Body Wash, Turkey Hill Ice Cream

Wilmington Red Plum (blue only)

Wow! As you can see, you would miss out on quite a few of the coupons if you only get the Wilmington paper. The Ball Park coupons are awesome, particularly if you use them with this week's Meal Deal. It would bring the cost down to only $4.89 for the entire meal! Also, Nutrigrain Bars are on sale this week EVIC for $1.97, so if you use the coupon above you would get them for $1.47 each.

Let's move on to the Smart Source inserts, which for me were only in the Raleigh papers.

Smart Source #1

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning!

This week there are supposed to be two inserts in each newspaper- one Red Plum and one Smart Source. However, I looked through many papers and only found one Red Plum in my Raleigh News and Observer. I was disappointed, as the Smart Source in the bigger cities this week was supposed to be really good. I did find both a Smart Source and a Red Plum in my Wilmington paper.

Below is the list of what coupons were in each of my inserts:

Raleigh Red Plum:

Dove Mens Products, Axe Mens Products, Suave Mens Hair and Body Wash, Degree for Men, Vaseline Lotion, Country Crock Spread, Hellmans, Knorr Recipe/Sauce/Gravy Mix, Lipton Recipe Secrets, Angel Soft, Goodlife for Cats, Advil, Alavert, Quaker Stila Cookie Bars and Bits, Hillshire Farm Grilled Chicken Breast, Quaker Soft Baked Oatmeal Cookies, Loreal Eye, Eyeliner, Excellence or to-Go Shade, Tennessee Pride and Hawaaiian Bread and Eggs, Folgers Coffee, Dove Products for Women, Ponds, Rhodes Bread or Rolls, Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, Hardees, McCormick Products, Perdue Oven Ready Products, HillshireFarm Rope Sausage, Sara Lee Creme Pie, Domino Agave Sugar, Bridgford Rolls or Monkey Bread, Purina Busy Chew Treats, Carbona Cleaning Products, Beggin Thick Cut Dog Treats, Wisk (nice $2 coupon)

I will say there were lots of coupons in the Red Plum Raleigh edition. Let's check Wilmington!

OK- the Wilmington Red Plum was extremely disappointing. Let's see if the Wilmington Smart Source is any better:

Wilmington Smart Source:

Blue Natural Dog or Cat Foods, Dove Fruit Crisp, Halls, Palermos Pizza, Kotex products, Reynolds Wrap and Parchment Paper, Huggies Little Swimmers, Fleischmann's Simply Homemade Bread, French's Onions, Dole Fruit Cans, Welch's Fruit Snacks, French's Worceshire Sauce, Skintimate Shave Gel, Schick Hydro Silk, White Cloud Bath Tissue, Neutrogena Face, Lip or Eye Makeup, Johnsonville Pork and Chicken Sausage, Mentos Gum, Betty Crocker Decorative Icing, NYM Haircare Products, Xenadrine Weight Loss, Pet Milk and Whipping Cream, Smithfield Bacon

I thought the Wilmington Smart Source was pretty good. In fact, I bought two copies of the Wilmington paper this week and only one Raleigh.

What did you find in your Sunday paper this morning?

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning! Daylight savings time had me missing in action last week! I got up late and by the time I arrived to the store there were no Raleigh papers left! So I did not do a review last week.

This week I was up and at it again and I found two inserts in each newspaper- both had a Red Plum and a Smart Source. As usual, the Raleigh newspaper had more of a variety than the Wilmington paper but you can decide for yourself if it's worth the extra hassle of going for the Raleigh paper today! Below are what coupons I saw in each.

Raleigh Red Plum had coupons for the following:

Catherines plus size clothes, Loreal Paris Skincare, Loreal Paris Revitalift, Loreal Shade of Preference, Suave Body Lotion, Suave Naturals (Mens or Kids Body Wash), Suave Deoderant, Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Kit, Suave Professionals Styling Product, Suave Professionals Shampoo or Conditioner, Suave Scalp Solutions, Starburst, Life Savers or Jellybeans, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Dipps or Smashbar, Mars Easter Products, Pringles Cans, Pringles Snack Stacks, Sundown Vitamins, Domino Sugar, Domino Brown or Confectioners Sugar, Domino Agave Nectar, Alka Seltzer, Nivea, Purina Friskies Treats, Purina Friskies Plus or Indoor Wet Cat Food, Purina Friskies Canned or Pouches Cat Food, Purina Mighty  Dog Food, Covergirl Lip or Eye Product, Covergirl Tone Rehab Foundation, Gain Laundry Products, Scope, Season Skinless and Boneless Sardines, Jimmy Dean Bowls, Mardi Gras Napkins.

Wilmington Red Plum had coupons for the following: (Blue only)

As you can see, the Wilmington Red Plum was pretty sparse; however, neither was too exciting for me this week as I noticed they were loaded with pet food coupons and hair and make up product coupons that I do not use. Maybe you do, though! On do the Smart Source!

Raleigh Smart Source Insert had coupons for the following:

The Wilmington paper did have two coupons that were not included in the Raleigh paper- Shredded Wheat and Grape Nuts! So if you want those coupons be sure to get the Wilmington paper. Otherwise, Raleigh definitely has more coupons.

Until next week......!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning! It's the first of the month and that means one thing- lots of coupons in the Sunday paper. People were up and out early, too. By the time I got there (7:45) most of the Raleigh papers were gone. I checked another gas station and they were already sold out.

Raleigh was supposed to have all three inserts- Red Plum, P&G and Smart Source. Mine, however, did not have the Smart Source and I checked many papers. My Wilmington Star News had all three inserts in it, albeit thinner versions.

Below is a list of what coupons came in my inserts this week!

Wilmington Star News

Smart Source Insert

Dr. Scholls, Campbells Soups, Mean Green Cleaner, Freschetta Pizzas, Jergens, Curel, Ban, John Freida, Biore, John Freida Precision Foam, Tyson Anytizers, Science Diet Pet Food, Smart Balance Milk, Bailey's Creamers, Chuck E Cheese

Red Plum Insert

Paseo Bath Tissue and Facial Tissue, Emerald Nuts, Osteo-Bi Flex, Loreal Cosmetics, Loreal Paris Skincare, Zyrtec, Dole, On0Core Family Entrees, Rosina Meatballs, El Monterrey, Birds Eye, Jimmy Dean Delights, Jose Ole Taquitos, Zatarain's, Goody's, BC, All Laundry Detergent,

Raleigh News and Observer

There was also a P&G insert in each paper that was the same.

Overall, the coupons this week were average. I've seen better and I've seen worse, but they were still worth getting. If you can't find the Raleigh paper, the Wilmington wasn't too bad.

Until next week.....

Star News vs. News and Observer

Good morning! There was an arctic blast that came through last night so at the time I normally get my newspapers, around 6 a.m., the temperature outside was around 24 degrees! Brrrr! I was enjoying being snuggled up in my bed.

Today my Raleigh News and Observer had two different coupon inserts- one Red Plum and one Smart Source. My Wilmington Star News only had a Smart Source insert. I thought it would have both, so I was a bit surprised to see that.

Let's compare the two Smart Source inserts from each newspaper.

The Wilmington Smart Source insert had coupons for the following items:

SeaPak, Schiff, Hershey's, Jolly Ranchers, Campbells Soups, Arm and Hammer, Bissell Carpet Cleaner, Science Diet Dog and Cat Food, Pet Trumoo Chocolate Milk, Schick Hydro Razor, Target Huggies Coupons, Pull-ups, Celestial Seasonings Tea, Huggies Diapers, Huggies Wipes, Kraft Parmesean Cheese, Johnsonville Sausage, John Frieda, Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Sorrento Mozzarella and Ricotta Cheeses, French's Onions, Loreal Color, John Frieda Root Awakening, Axe Deoderant.

The Raleigh Smart Source insert had coupons for all of the above (except the Celestial Seasonings) PLUS:

Mrs. Dash, Mazola oil or spray, Hormel Compleats, Hormel Refrigerated Entrees, Lloyds BBQ, Hormel Country Crock, Hormel Always Tender, Activia, Boston Market, Pedia Sure, Kleenex, Newman's Own Organic K-Cup or bag Coffee, Ocuvite, Planters Nut-trition, Shake n Bake, Ge Bulbs, Enfamil, Poise Hourglass Pads, Poise Products, Colgate, Glade Products (6 different coupons) Bissell Stomp n Go, Gold Bond, Cortizone Lotion, Cortizone 10, John Frieda (additional coupons), Chinet Comfort Cups, Waggin Train Dog Treats, Zantac, Arm  n Hammer Laundry Detergent.

Clearly, the Raleigh Smart Source was LOADED today and is the better option!

Since my Star News did not have a Red Plum (let me know if yours did), I will only list what was included in the Raleigh Red Plum:

IHOP, Centrum, Plus White, Sundown, Osteo Bi-Flex, MnMs, Got2B Product, Welch's Grape Juice, Refrigerated Cocktail Juice and Jam or Jelly, Vitamin World Store Vitamins, Nivea Lotions, Body Wash for Women and Men, Face Care, Lip Care, Skin Firming, Clairol Hair Color, Nature's Bounty, Fixodent, Secret, Olay Moisturizers, Sherman Williams.

Unless you can find a Wilmington paper with the Red Plum insert, I would definitely try to get the Raleigh paper. Even if your Wilmington paper does have a Red Plum, the Raleigh paper had more coupons in the Smart Source insert, too, so it's the better bet this week!

Star News vs. News and Observer

Well, I hope you have your scissors ready because it's going to be one of THOSE mornings!

Both the Raleigh and the Wilmington newspapers contained four inserts for me- 1 Proctor and Gamble, 1 Smart Source, and 2 Red Plum, inserts. The Proctor and Gamble inserts are both the same. At first glance, the Wilmington inserts definitely felt thinner than the Raleigh inserts, especially the Red Plums. Let's take a closer look.

The Wilmington Smart Source has coupons for: Everybody's Nuts Pistachios, Vlassic Pickles, Texas Toast Croutons, Revlon, RidX, Efferdent, Kraft Homestyle Mac n Cheese, Smithfield Bacon, Nexium, Heinz, Air Wick, and Eggland's Best Eggs, plus ChuckECheese.

The Raleigh Smart Source has coupons for all of the above minus the Nexium and Vlassic Pickles. It also had additional coupons: El Monterrery Snacks, Biz, Blue Diamond Nuts, Marzetti Dressings and Dips, Kleenex Hand Towels, Dannon Yogurt, Totinos Pizza, Pizza Rolls and Pizza Stuffers, Pillsbury, Chex Mix, Fiber One, Spot Shot, 2000 Flushes, Prevacid, Carpet Fresh, and X14 Stain Eliminator for Mold and Mildew, Speed Stick, Irish Springs, Palmolive, Softsoaps, Colgate, Colgate Toothbrushes, Dole Fruit Cups, Bayer, Revlon, Land O Lakes Deli Cheese, Kraft Mac n Cheese, Opti Free, Genteal, I Caps, Planters Peanuts, Hebrew National, Alka Seltzer, Mira Lax, Qnol and Scotch-Brite Wipes. There was also a neat Colgate rebate, too.

Clearly the Raleigh Smart Source wins as far as sheer number of coupons.

On to the Red Plum. Both papers had two Red Plum inserts. Let's look at each one.

Wilmington Red Plum number one had coupons for: Hardees, Cooked Perfect Meatballs, Riceworks, Furmanos Tomatoes, and lots of ads!

Raleigh Red Plum number one had coupons for: I Can't Beleive it's not butter, Lipton, Hellman's Wishbone, Ragu, Bertolli Frozen Meals, Dove, Caress, QTips, Dove Deoderants, Dove Soaps and Body Wash, Degree Deoderants, Vaseline, Knorr Rice Sides, Lipton Recipe Secrets, Lipton Cup o Soup, Hillshire Farm, Smoked Sausage, M&Ms, Cheeze-Its, Goodlife Cat Treats, Furmanos, Pedigree Dog Treats, Estracell Sponges and Brillo Pads, Cooked Perfect Meatballs, Vitamins, Tums, Porcelana, Riceworks, and Hardees.

The Raleigh Red Plum #1 is the winner again!

Finally, let's look at the second Red Plum.

The Wilmington Red Plum #2 has coupons for: Marcal Paper Towels, Napkins or Bath Tissue, Digiorno, Loreal, and Cici's Pizza.

The Raleigh Red Plum #2 has coupons for: Fancy Feast, Purina, Tidy Cats, Whisker Lickins, Mighty Dog, Tiny Bonz, Purina, Chef Michaels for Pets, Digiornos, CoffeeMate Natural Bliss, Stouffers Lasagne, Carnation, Boost, Loreal, Minute Rice, Dole Pineapple Cans, Kettle Brand Chips, Emerald Nuts, Pop Secret Products, Centrum, Advil, Robistussin, Dimetapp, Thermacare, plus a $10 Rebate on those Pfizer products, Marcal Paper Products, Pringles, Eucerin, and Cicis Pizza.

Again, the Raleigh paper wins for most coupons.

So, obviously, if you can get a Raleigh paper today, it will be well worth your while! So many awesome coupons are available, for pets and people!

Star News vs. News and Observer

This week there were two inserts in both newspapers for me. I had a Red Plum and a Smart Source in each paper. At first glance, the Wilmington Star News inserts feel thinner; let's take a look and see which actually had more coupons.

The Wilmington Red Plum had coupons for: Loreal Paris eye products, Loreal Paris hair styling products, shampoo, and treatments, and Loreal Paris Skincare, Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls, Superpretzels, Renuzit Adjustables, and LandOfrost wrap kits or sub sandwich kits.

The Raleigh Red Plum had all of the above PLUS Whiskas cat food, Uncle Ben's products, Soft Scrub, Right Guard, Dry Idea Sticks Deoderant, Pupperoni, ERASE Face Lift, Milo's Kitchen Dog Treats, a ton of vitamin and supplement coupons, Special K Bars, Newman's Own Salad Dressing, Salsa and Pizza, Vanity Fair Napkins and some Target-specific coupons for Charmin, Bounty, Bounty Basic.

The Raleigh Red Plum is the clear winner!

The Wilmington Smart Source insert had coupons for: Reynold's Wrap Pam Liner, Luden's Cough Drops, Kibble Select, People Magazine, Chock Full o Nuts, Blistex, French's Mustards, Pepsi, Lays Dips and Chips, ershey's and Reece's Candies, Johnsonville Sausages, Reynold's Wrap Foil, Reynold's Slow Cooker Liners, and the Olive Garden.

The Raleigh Smart Source had coupons for all of the above except the Luden's Cough Drops, Kibble Select, Blistex.

The Raleigh Smart Source ALSO had coupons for the following products that were not included in the Wilmington paper:

Kraft Dressings, Zone Perfect Bar or Multipack, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting, Cheerios, Yoplait Yogurt, Yoplait Greek Yogurt, Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals, Pace Picante Sauce, Nathan's Fries, Potatoe Pancakes and Onion Rings, Swanson Canned Chicken, Orville Reddenbacher's Popcorn, Hunts Canned Tomatoes, Game Ball Icecream Cake, Franks Red Hot Sauce, Red Baron, Tony's or Freschetta Pizzas, White Castle Burgers, Sargento Cheese, A1 Steak Sauce, Mt. Olive Pickles, Tyson Anytizers, Bissell Carpet Cleaning Powder or Foam, Bissel Stomp and Go Pads, Theraflu Products, Triaminic, Fleishchmann's Yeast, Budweiser Sauce, Real California Cheese, Finish Products, French's Worceshire Sauce, Neosporin Essentials, Oscar Meyer Carving Board or Cold Cuts, Lunchables with Fruit, Velveeta Cheese, Heluva Good Dips, Whonu Nutrition Rich Cookies, and Soothie Eye Products.

Well, the obvious conclusion for this week is to get the Raleigh News and Observer newspaper if you can get your hands on it! It DEFINITELY has more coupons this week!

Star News vs. News and Observer

This morning both my Raleigh Newspaper and my Wilmington newspaper had one Smart Source Insert. At first glance they appear to be very similar but the Raleigh feels thicker. Both papers had a nice selection of useful coupons, too!

The Raleigh paper had coupons for New York Brand Toast Products, Farm Rich Mozzarella Sticks, Butterball Turkey Products, Tabasco Sauce, Campbells Soups, Kraft Cheese products (these are rare so I'm excited), Jose Ole, Wolfgang Puck Pasta Sauce, Pediasure, Starbucks, Ziploc bags and containers, Tylenol, Kotex Products, Dole Fruit Crisps, Lysol No-Touch Kitchen System, Scott paper products, Hormel and Lloyds Products, Cottonnelle, Pagoda Express, Goodnites Underwear, Skintimate Shave Gel, Schick Quattro, Naturelief, Colgate Toothpaste, Brita Pitchers, Pullups, Revlon, Welch's Fruit n Yogurts, Dreamfields Pasta, Jergens, Dean's Dips, Jolly Time Popcorn, Depend Products, Purina One Dog Food, Digiorno Pizzas, Friskies, Ortega Products, Pet Milk, Viva Paper Towels, Huggies Diapers and Wipes, Longhorn Steakhouse, Fruity Pebbles, Activia Yogurt, Scrubbin Bubbles, Pledge, Shout, Windex, Glade, Cape Cod, Eat Think Smile Bars, Revlon, Wisk, Sorrento Cheese, Act, Brisk Fusion Drinks.

The Wilmington paper was much thinner. It did not contain the New York Products coupons, Tabasco, Glade, Kraft Cheese, Lysol no-touch, Colgate, Dreamfields Pasta, Dean's Dips, Purina, Friskies, Ortega, Fruity Pebbles, Scrubbin Bubbles, and possibly a few others that I may have missed. It is definitely thinner with more ads.

Overall, I would say to definitely get the Raleigh paper this week if you can! The Wilmington isn't bad and still offers some great coupons but you will get more for your money with the Raleigh paper!

Until next week.......

Star News vs News and Observer: No Coupons til January!

You know Christmas and New Years is near when there are no more coupons!

According to Southern Savers, there should not be any more coupons until January. I know this is disappointing to some of you, but take the time to clean out and organize your binders and oh, yes, RELAX and enjoy the holidays!

The good news is that when the coupons return in January, there are supposed to be lots of inserts filled with coupons!

Until 2012........I'll be doing posts here and there and also don't forget the Delly's Deals Coupon Binder drawing that's coming up on Wednesday evening! "Like" Dellys Deals on Facebook for your chance to win a Deluxe Couponing Binder of your choice, with all the accessories!

Star News vs. News and Observer

This week my Wilmington Star News newspaper had 1 Smart Source insert and my Raleigh News and Observer paper had both 1 Red Plum insert and 1 Smart Source insert.

Let's start with the Raleigh paper. The Red Plum insert was small but contained some nice coupons, especially on medicine.  I liked the Millstaone coffee $2 off coupon in particular. It also included Meaty Bone, Pup-Peroni, Dial NutriSkin Lotions, Loreal Eye Products, Keebler Crackers, Crest Whitestrips, Oral-B Toothbrushes and Replacement Heads, Duracell Batteries, Head and Shoulders, Axe Shower Gel, Axe Bodyspray, Dimetapp, Sundown Vitamins, Advil Adult and Children's products, and Robitussin.

The Raleigh Smart Source was a tad bit thicker than the Wilmington Smart Source. Raleigh Smart Source had Cold Stone Creamery coupons, Pistachio nuts coupons, Pillsbury Coupons, Cinnabon coupons, Totinos Pizza Rolls, Progresso Soups, Heluva Good Sour Cream Dip, Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers, Green Giant Frozen Boxed Vegetables, General Mills cereals, Chex Mix, Betty Crocker Cookie Mis, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting, Carolina Pride Bacon and Sausage, Duke's Mayonnaise, Dixie Crystals Sugar, Sorrento Homestyle Shred Mozzarella, Covergirl, Mazola Corn Oil, Poise Pads, Poise Hourglass Shape Pads, Prevacid, Loreal Paris Youth Code Products, Jolly Time Blast O Butter, Arm and Hammer Spinbrush Products (and a rebate), Buddig Original Deli Meat, Pure Moist Disinfecting Solution, Mucinex, Benefiber, International Delight Creamer, Dentek Products, Allens Canned Products, Cepacol, Treasure Cave Cheese, Reese's or Hershey's Kisses.

My Wilmington paper only had a Smart Source insert, similar to the Raleigh Smart Source but a little smaller. It contained coupons for: Cold Stone, Pillsbury, Cinnabon coffee, Totinos Pizza Rolls, Progresso Soups, Pistachio nuts, Dixie Crystals Sugar, Sorrento Cheese, Grean Giant Valley Steamers, Green Giant Frozen Vegetables, General Mills Cereals, Chex Mix, Betty Crocker Cookie Mix, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting, Cover Girl, Duke's Mayonnaise, Centrum Pro Nutrients, Centrum, Dentek, Cepacol, Jollytime Butter, Carolina Pride Bacon and Sausage, Target Purina Coupon, Benefiber.

So, as you can see, the Raleigh paper had two inserts, and the Raleigh Smart Source has more coupons than the Wilmington Smart Source. I would definitely shoot for only buying the Raleigh paper  if you can find it this morning.

Finally, note the Dixie Crystals Sugar coupon from both Smart Source inserts. It is for $.55 off and the sugar is on sale this week for $1.97 EVIC special for Harris Teeter. After the coupon doubles, the sugar only costs $.87 for a four pound bag. This is definitely the time of year to stock up on sugar!

Until next week.........

Star News vs. News and Observer

This week my Raleigh paper had one thick Smart Source insert and my Wilmington paper had two smaller inserts- a Smart Source and a Red Plum.

I'll start with the Wilmington Red Plum insert. It was paper-thin! There seemed to be more ads than coupons in it. I did see some fast food coupons for Subway, Hardees, and Dunkin Donuts. As for grocery coupons, there were Soft Pretzel, Folgers, Rhodes Bread, Loreal Shampoo and hair treatments, All Laundry Detergent, and Scope. Except for the All and the B1G1 free Subway coupons, there wasn't much to be excited about in my opinion.

Both papers had a Smart Source insert, with the Raleigh paper having a thicker Smart Source. The Raleigh Smart Source insert had coupons for Reynolds Parchment Paper, Krusteaz Muffin Mix, Hills Bros Cappuchino Mix, Campbells Soup and Spaghetti-Os, Cuties Oranges, Shick Razors, Shave Gel, Edge, and Skintimate, various Pillsbury, Corn Chex, Pom, Snyders Pretzels, Kleenex Hand Towels, Scott Bath Tissues, Carolina Pride Sausages, Sauer's Rub Griller or Marinade, John Freida, Luster White, Solo Cups, Plates or Bowls, Nancy's Frozen Appetizers, Kleenex tissues, Target frozen food coupon, Curel, Efferdent, TGI Fridays frozen meal, Smithfield Bacon, Scotch Brite Wipes, Neutrogena, Jergens, Colgate, Similasan, Gas X, Excedrin, Triaminic, Theraflu, Boston Market, Fleischman's Yeast, Karo or Argo Products, Sunsweet Diced Plums, Werther's Originals, Zegerid, MiraLax, Purina Snacks, K-Y Products, Bronkaid, Neo-Synephrine, Ziploc bags and containers, and Glade Products, Starter Logs, and Chuck-e-Cheese. Overall I was impressed with the selection and VALUE of the coupons in this insert, many being high value coupons that will double or that already were high.

The Wilmington Smart Source was a little smaller than the Raleigh Smart Source. It  had the Pillsbury coupons, Corn Chex, Shick, Edge and Skintimate Shave gels, Scott bath tissues, a Family Dollar Scott towel or tissue, Kleenex Hand Towels, Campbells, Jergens, Efferdent, Spaghetti Os, Carolina Pride Sausages, Sauer's Griller or Marinade, Similasan, Scotch-Brite, John Freida and Neutrogena, Smithfield Bacon, Snyders Pretzels, Reynold's Parchment Paper, Hills Bros Cappuchino, and Neutrogena Face Make-up and Chuck-e-Cheese. Missing were the Nancys, Solo Cups, Purina and Target coupons but the Wilmington paper had a few that were not in the Raleigh paper such as Longhorn coupons, Celestial Seasonings tea, and Samurai Asian Products coupons.

In summary, I think both papers had a good variety of coupons. If you want coupons for some local food places, don't miss the Star News this week. Personally, I suggest one of each newspaper today if you can get your hands on both. I bought two Raleigh and one Wilmington paper.

Until next week!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

There is supposed to be one Proctor and Gamble monthly insert in the paper today and possibly Walmart and Target coupons.

However, early this morning, I went to three locations- Harris Teeter Ogden, Kangaroo and Hess and none of the newspapers had coupons! Oddly enough, the Wilmington Star News said that it had $69.50 worth of coupons inside but I looked in many papers and none contained coupons. This also happened last week with the Raleigh paper, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I have heard that you can get the Proctor and Gamble insert for free from the local AdPack and Encore Magazines, if you know where they are located around town. They tend to be in restaurants, coffee shops and local type establishments.

I don't plan on any goose chases searching for the Proctor and Gamble inserts; most likely I will just order it online, either from Whole Coupon Inserts or from EBAY. Coupons can generally be purchased there for less than $1 plus a small shipping fee.

Another idea is to check this list of what coupons were in the Proctor and Gamble insert today. You may only want certain coupons from it, rather than the complete insert. If that's the case, individual coupons can be obtained on EBAY or from Coupon Dede or Kuntry Klippers, so that you only buy the coupons you actually want.

Let me know if your newspaper had the Proctor and Gamble insert today!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

It's time again to compare the two papers that are available here locally to see which has the most coupons this week!

Interestingly, the Raleigh News and Observer only had one insert this time, a Red Plum. My Wilmington Star News Newspaper had THREE inserts- a Red Plum, Smart Source and a special Everydaysaver. I was very impressed with the Wilmington paper this morning. Don't forget that you can get the Wilmington newspaper for only $1.00 at the Dollar Tree locations.

I was tempted to say the two Red Plum inserts were identical, but then I found two Morton Salt coupons that weren't in the Wilmington Red Plum but were in the Raleigh Red Plum. I Also couldn't find the Tennessee Pride Sausage coupon in the Wilmington paper.  But overall, they basically have the same coupons this week.

The Wilmington paper had two additional inserts this week that I did not find in my Raleigh paper. The Everyday Saver insert featured lots of Pillsbury coupons for cookies, biscuits, pie crusts, and crescent rolls. It also had Granola Thins, Hamburger Helper, Green Giant Frozen Veggies and a rare coupon on Green Giant Canned Veggies! The canned veggie coupon is for $.50 off of two, so it will double at Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods. This would make a great coupon to search for extras of on EBAY, as it doesn't expire until January 7th, 2012!

The Everyday saver insert also had Yoplait Greek Yogurt, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and icing coupons and a Bisquick coupon for $.50 off. Note, these coupons usually have matching digital coupons from Harris Teeter EVIC and also from Lowes Foods and Cellfire.com. Finally, I also saw a coupon for Chex Cereals and Progresso soups. This Everyday saver insert is one you don't want to miss!

In additional to the everyday saver inserts, there was also a Smart Source insert in the Wilmington paper. It featured coupons such as Scott products, Egglands Best, Fleischmann's Bread, Reynold's Wrap and Oven Bags for your turkey, Dixie Crystals Sugar, Mrs. Schubert's Bread, Texas Toast Croutons, Pam Cooking Spray, Orville Reddenbacher Popcorn, Sweet n Low, White Castle Burgers, Marie Callendars Dessert Pie, Redi-Whip, Nabisco Crackers, Egg Nog, Bird's Eye Veggies, Carolina Pride Hotdogs, Excedrin and Bruce's Baked Sweet Potatoes.

My point is that you DEFINITELY don't want to miss the Star News this week and I probably would make a pass on the Raleigh paper!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

Finally, I'm in town on a Sunday morning! I've been MIA the last two Sundays, out of town each week, so I was unable to compare the two papers because I couldn't get a Wilmington paper.

But now I'm back and this week there are some great coupons in both papers. Each paper had two inserts- a Smart Source and a Red Plum. I did notice that the Raleigh paper had a few more coupons than the Wilmington paper, although I doubt you'll be disappointed with either one. I bought two Raleigh and one Wilmington.

A couple of things I noted- lots of baking coupons right now. I saw Pillsbury Brownie Mix, Crisco oil, and flour. These are just a few. I was particularly excited about the Crisco, because I've been waiting for oil to go on sale for quite some time now. It finally went on sale for $2.99 at Harris Teeter, which isn't bad (I actually think it will go even lower at some point in the near future), but $2.99 is definitely better than the usual $4+ price.

Until next week!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

This week there were three coupon inserts in both my Star News and News and Observer papers. Some regions also got the special Target insert, but I did not see it included in either of mine, so I guess we weren't one of those special regions. Inform me if you did in fact receive the Target insert.

Both papers had the special Proctor and Gamble insert with $39 of various P&G coupons.

Both papers also had a Red Plum and a Smart Source.

The Raleigh Red Plum was thicker and included basically the same coupons that were in the Wilmington Red Plum plus more. Both papers had the Marcal paper towel coupons, which are nice to use at Food Lion when the paper towels go on sale for $1. Since the coupon is $1, you get the towels for free, so be on the lookout for a sale on those in the upcoming weeks. I also liked the Digiorno Pizza coupons that were in both newspapers. The coupon is for $1.25 off Digiorno combo pizzas, such as the Pizza and Wings or Pizza and cookies. Those will probably go on sale soon, too.

Other notable coupons included Halloween candy coupons and a $2.00 off Wisk coupon, both only in the Raleigh paper. Raleigh also had the Perdue chicken coupons and the Domino sugar coupons, both of which I like to use. Sugar coupons don't come around too often, so I'm happy to see them. I do expect to see more sugar and baking coupons with the Holidays coming up, so now is the time to start stocking up on sugar and baking items for the year.

Both papers had Smart Source inserts but again, the Wilmington paper had significantly less coupons. One coupon in the Wilmington Smart Source that I liked was the $3.00 off 1 Snapware product; I did not see this coupon in the Raleigh paper. Both Smart Source inserts had the Johnsonville Italian sausage coupons for $.50 off, Tyson anytizer wings coupons for $1 off, and the Arm and Hammer coupons for $1 off. The Raleigh Smart Source included plenty of medicine coupons, too.

In the end, this week I would definitely grab one or two Raleigh papers if you could. It had the same coupons as Wilmington plus more. Unless you really want the $3 Snapware coupon, which was only found in my Wilmington paper, I would just buy one or two copies of the News and Observer.

Until next week...happy shopping!

Star News Versus News and Observer

Not much can top last week's coupons! Last week, both newspapers were LOADED! It took me quite some time to cut them all (even using my time-saving method), so this week a break was definitely welcome.

There were pretty decent coupons this week. I checked several copies of both the Raleigh News and Observer and the Wilmington Star News. I found two inserts in the Raleigh paper, and one insert in the Wilmington paper. The Wilmington insert was very thin, so I highly suggest the Raleigh one if you can get your hands on it.

My Wilmington paper had one Smart Source insert. It was a smaller version of the Raleigh Smart Source insert; I did not see any additional coupons in it that weren't already in the Raleigh paper. Let me know if you did.

My Raleigh paper had a Smart Source and a Red Plum. As a bonus, there were Olive Garden coupons on the back of the Smart Source and Subway coupons on the front of the Red Plum!

Highlights of the Smart Source insert include a coupon for a FREE Dr. Pepper TEN 2 liter. This was also found in the Wilmington insert. Even better is the "Try Me Free" Fleischman Homemade Bread coupon in the Raleigh Smart Source! That alone is worth the cost of the entire newspaper! Interestingly, the same coupon is included in the Wilmington paper but instead of "FREE" it says ".75 off." $.75 off is still a very generous coupon, especially if the bread costs $1.50. I have no idea how much the bread costs, though.

I also liked the Butterball Turkey bacon and sausage coupon, the Carpet Fresh coupon for $1 off (wait for it to go on sale for $1 and it will be free). I also liked the Nature Valley Granola thins coupon in the Raleigh Smart Source for $.75 off. In addition, I saw some Dole Fruit Smoothie coupons in the Raleigh paper and Dole Fresh Fruit single serve coupons. Finally, I noticed a "try me FREE" rebate for Lysol wipes in the Raleigh Smart Source. I did not see these in the Wilmington insert.

The Raleigh Red Plum was thinner, with only a few decent coupons. There was medicine- Dimetapp, Mars Candy coupons, Pupperoni for dogs, and Land-O-Frost bistro favorites deli meat that looks interesting. Nothing to get too excited about, but still definitely worth the $2.00 for the paper.

Overall, not a bad week, especially considering the freebies you can get in this week's paper, especially the Raleigh News and Observer!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

The first weekend of the month is a great time to get coupons!

Today's Wilmington Star News newspaper had four inserts- Red Plum, Smart Source, Proctor and Gamble, and a special Pepsi Moments to Save insert. They proudly displayed $148 value on the front cover of the newspaper!

The Raleigh Star News had only two inserts- a Red Plum and a Smart Source. I did not see the Proctor and Gamble nor the Pepsi Moments to save, and I looked through several papers. The two inserts that were present were fairly thick and full of coupons.

The Moments to Save TM insert from Wilmington paper was nice; it had $20 worth of coupons for things like Tostitos Chips and Salsa, Frito Lay Chips, Trop50 Juices, Lipton Iced Tea, Starbucks Frapuchinnos, and Quaker Cereals and Oatmeals. Oatmeal is on sale this week at Lowes Foods, so I'm looking forward to stocking up on those. Actually, Lowes Foods is running a Moments to Save TM sale on all the products that match up to the Moments to Save TM sale coupon booklet in the paper today, so check it out!

The Red Plum insert was definitely thicker in the Raleigh paper. There were more coupons in it, such as lots of Dove coupons. This week, Harris Teeter is running a promo on Dove where you get $5 off instantly at the register if you buy $15 worth of Dove, Unilever Products. You only have to meet the $15 BEFORE coupons! So that means you could buy $15 worth of products, then use the coupons from the Raleigh paper (many will double) to lower your total and you will STILL get $5 off at the register! My kids have sensitive skin and we have to use Dove, so I plan on stocking up. It is so expensive if you have to buy it when it's not on sale or running a promo. Dove products for men also count and there were coupons for it.

Other coupons from the Raleigh Red Plum that I liked were $.75 off Snuggle Fabric Sheets, which I love to use and $1.00 off All detergent. I did not see the Snuggle coupon in the Wilmington Red Plum insert.

On to the Smart Source inserts. The Smart Source insert in both papers was a real gem today! Actually, looking through the Smart Source insert made it feel like fall (might be the weather, too). I saw lots of baking needs coupons today, such as Reynolds Wrap, Eggland's Best Eggs, Baking Cuups, Baking Powder. I also saw the Ricola cough drops and Little Noses saline drops, which are invaluable when my kids have colds. Also in Smart Source were Franks Red Hot Sauce, Tyson Chicken Strips, Campbell's Soup, Swanson's Chicken Broth, Viva Paper Towels (EVIC special this week at Harris Teeter so with coupon it's only $3.77), Cottonnelle toilet paper, 2000 Flushes and SO MANY more! The Raleigh paper had slightly more Smart Source coupons but both papers had a good variety.

Today I bought two of each paper, due to the huge variety of coupons. Be sure to check your sales flyers at your grocery stores this week and next, because I imagine there are going to be a lot of coupon match-ups coming from these newspapers today!

Until next week......

I'm not sure how long I've been doing this now, so I can't recall which round this is!

Total Value of Raleigh paper coupons: 154.63

Dollar for dollar, the Raleigh paper had more coupons, but the variety and different coupons in the local Wilmington paper was nice. If you get the Wilmington paper, you will get all those nice General Mills coupons (although many of those General Mills coupons are also available for free to print online from my website). All in all, I'd say if you can get your hands on them, get both!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

The time has come once again to compare the two newspapers to see which offers more coupons! Already it is the first of the month, so for couponers first of the month means one thing- The Proctor and Gamble Insert is out!

This is a particularly important week to buy the Sunday paper because next week is Labor Day, which means no coupons. No coupon inserts come out on holidays, so you don't want to miss out today. Let's see what coupons are available in each paper and determine which is more worth your money this week!

Proctor and Gamble Assorted Coupons: $108 value

Total Value of Raleigh News and Observer Coupons: 232.35

Once again, the Raleigh News and Observer is the best bang for your buck this month! The Star News had some pretty good coupons, including some from Walgreens that can only be used there. Those can also be combined with manufacturer's coupons for additional savings. Even so, I would still opt for the Raleigh paper since it contained most of the ones from the Wilmington paper and more. Personally, I bought one of the Wilmington and two of the Raleigh papers this week.

One last tip- if you like the coupons that are in the Raleigh paper, this is a great week to get multiple copies of it since next week you will not be buying any newspapers due to the holiday coming up next weekend.

The battle of the papers will resume in two weeks!
