Saving Money by Canning and Pickling

Over the weekend, during Hurricane Irene, I took some time to do something I've been meaning to do for a while- pickle peppers!

As many of you know, I planted a garden this year. I recently wrote an update on it here. One of my favorite foods is jalapeno peppers and I normally buy them at the store for around $3 a jar. If I have a coupon or they are on sale, I might get a better deal, but I go through about a jar a month. So, this year I planted two of my own jalapeno pepper plants and one banana pepper plant. I was amazed at how much these little plants grew and produced! They grew so easily and apparently the more you pick them, the more they grow! I placed them in a flower bed at the front of my house and as a bonus, they have added color and beauty to our yard. Had I known how well they grow I would have planted more and I certainly will next year.

So, the day before the hurricane hit, I had my son go out and pick all the peppers. He picked probably 25-30. I already had jars from the Ball jar company (they give out coupons each summer and I got them on sale at Harris Teeter). I had vinegar, water and sugar, which is all you need. I had never done this before so I looked up a video on Youtube to guide me through the process. Here it is below:

I followed all the steps, which I will list at the bottom of the post. It was easier than I thought and when I finished, I had a whole jar full of peppers! I was too thrilled. I have to wait a week before they are ready for eating, but I want to show you the finished product:

I can't wait to add these to some tacos! Another bonus is that each pepper has tons of seeds inside, so I look forward to saving some of them to plant next year. I only had two plants and will probably be able to pick enough peppers for at least one more jar, possibly two. I get excited thinking about how much I will save next year by planting more pepper plants, enough for at least 12 jars.

I chose to pickle these peppers, but you could can almost any fruit or veggie to preserve it to use later, so keep that in mind as well. Tomatoes are a great example of something you could can to use in recipes later on. The directions for canning are a little different from pickling and I think it's slightly more work to can veggies, but if you have a bountiful harvest, I think the effort is worth it.

If you aren't into peppers, here are some other veggies that pickle- cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage and carrots. I have heard you can pickle pretty much anything, provided you like the pickled flavor!

Ordering Coupons

Did you know that you can order coupons online? If not, you are certainly missing out! I decided to do a post today to address the issue of ordering coupons, why you would do it, and how to properly do so.

As many of us in the Wilmington, NC area know, smaller town newspapers tend to have few, if any coupons. Larger cities have more plentiful Sunday paper coupons, for example, Raleigh, NC. I like the Raleigh News and Observer but if you want to get it around here, you have to fight for it! Some days it sells out early and other days it might not arrive at all.

A viable alternative to buying the Sunday paper is to simply order the coupons online. I have used two companies, The Q Hunter and Whole Coupon Inserts. They both have speedy, reliable and inexpensive service. You can order the complete coupon insert from the newspaper from them for reasonable prices plus a small shipping fee. As a bonus, you can order past inserts. For example, if there was an insert from three weeks ago that had a lot of great coupons in it, you can go to their website and choose that particular insert and order as many copies as you'd like of it.

Another great feature is that The Q Hunter offers a subscription service. You pay a monthly fee (on your credit card) and they automatically mail you inserts each week, as if you were receiving the Sunday paper (without having to collect all those Sunday papers)! Even better is that the subscription service sends you more than just one insert- you get two of each from every Sunday. The Q Hunter offers 2 sets of each weekly insert for $18 a month. This is a great idea, in my opinion, especially if you have difficulties chasing down the Sunday paper each week. It would be easy to simply wait for it to arrive in the mail, usually on the Monday or Tuesday following the Sunday paper.

One note to remember is that these coupons come from other cities, usually wherever the supplier is located. I know that the Q Hunter gets many of their inserts from Cincinnati. Keep in mind that they will not be the exact same coupons that came in your local paper, but many will be the same. I do like how each company lists exactly which coupons come in each insert, so you will know ahead of time what coupons will be included and can make your choice accordingly.

Another option is EBAY. Search "coupons" on EBAY and so many options will come up! There are people all over selling grocery coupons. Some sell them in batches of 100 random coupons, pre-cut for you! Others sell individual specific coupons for certain items. Just this weekend I bought 20 Lloyd's BBQ coupons for $.75 off for $.99 with free shipping. That's an AWESOME value! I also bought 20 coupons for Lactaid milk for $5.00 off a half gallon, making the milk free. I paid around $22.00 for those coupons, but it is well worth it, as that milk is very expensive, usually costing over $3.50 per half gallon. So, as you can see, ordering from EBAY can be a great way to obtain coupons.

One warning about EBAY is to check the seller's ratings. Companies or individuals can sell on EBAY, so you want to make sure the person you are ordering from checks out professionally and doesn't have any negatives on their ratings. I have NEVER had a problem ordering coupons from EBAY but I am also careful about who I order from and always read what other customers have to say about them before I order.

One final option for ordering coupons is a company called, "Kuntry Klippers." They offer individual coupons in sets of 20. For example, if you like Yoplait yogurt and would like to buy 20 coupons for it, go to the Kuntry Klippers website and search "Yoplait." Or you can simply browse the dairy section on the website to see what's available. Once you see the coupon you want, you can click it and easily purchase it with your credit card. All coupons will be mailed to you promptly. I have used this service as well and love it.

I hope you will take advantage of the many options available out there to obtain your coupons!

Star News vs. News and Observer!

The time has come once again to compare the two newspapers to see which offers more coupons! Already it is the first of the month, so for couponers first of the month means one thing- The Proctor and Gamble Insert is out!

This is a particularly important week to buy the Sunday paper because next week is Labor Day, which means no coupons. No coupon inserts come out on holidays, so you don't want to miss out today. Let's see what coupons are available in each paper and determine which is more worth your money this week!

Total Value of Raleigh News and Observer Coupons: 232.35

Once again, the Raleigh News and Observer is the best bang for your buck this month! The Star News had some pretty good coupons, including some from Walgreens that can only be used there. Those can also be combined with manufacturer's coupons for additional savings. Even so, I would still opt for the Raleigh paper since it contained most of the ones from the Wilmington paper and more. Personally, I bought one of the Wilmington and two of the Raleigh papers this week.

One last tip- if you like the coupons that are in the Raleigh paper, this is a great week to get multiple copies of it since next week you will not be buying any newspapers due to the holiday coming up next weekend.

The battle of the papers will resume in two weeks!

Hurricane Project- Update on my Garden and Seed Collecting

Earlier this summer I did a post on my garden. Thank you all for the kind feedback on it and interest in the garden. This was my first garden and the kids and I really enjoyed working on it. We were able to get corn out of it, a few green beans, a couple of zuchinni (squash bugs got into it and killed most of it), lots of peppers, which we are going to try pickling, a few carrots, strawberries, and tomatoes and basil. We also grew zinnias and black eyed susans, which were perfect for cutting and using indoors as fresh floral arrangements.

My son, Gabe, picking a peck of pickled peppers (sorry, had to say it).

I think we met our goals for the garden. My goal was to have a fun learning experience with the children but also to use the garden as a vehicle for saving money on herbs and veggies. I will say that my biggest mistake was not planting enough. For example, we only planted five green bean plants. I learned that although they did produce, five plants was not enough to serve five people! We would pick what was available and then have enough for maybe one serving for one person. We had the same problem with the corn; we'd pick two ears, cook it for the kids, and they'd beg for more! Unfortunately, there wasn't more to be had!

So next year I will likely do a bigger garden. I was amazed at what grew. Since I had never done a garden before, I had no idea what to expect. For example, I planted corn on our front patio, thinking it wouldn't grow, and lo and behold it all produced!

Now fall is approaching, as well as Hurricane Irene. The hurricane should make landfall late tonight so as part of our preparations we decided to do a final cutting of the zinnias. They are so tall that I doubt they'll make it through the hurricane. We made a pretty floral arrangement and as a hurricane project while we are cooped up in the house, the kids are helping me harvest seeds from the flowers and store them for next year. It's so amazing how a packet of maybe 20 seeds costs $1.00-$2.00, but from one flower you can gather about 100 seeds! We have probably 100 flowers, so you do the math! We will have thousands of seeds and I can't wait to use them in our garden next year!

See our video below about how to gather seeds from zinnias (and other flowers for that matter).

Free Peanut Butter for All!

Well, maybe not for all, but definitely for those that have the matching coupons! I got 11 jars for FREE! Actually, I did have to pay a penny tax per jar, but I'll take it!

This week Skippy Peanut Butter is on sale at Harris Teeter for $2.99, Buy one Get one free. That makes each jar $1.50 each. That is a good deal.

Then, I had coupons for $.75 off of one jar. These were in the July 31st Red Plum insert from the Sunday paper. At Harris Teeter, the $.75 doubles to $1.50 off, making the peanut butter FREE! I love it!

Now, if you're wondering where I got 11 coupons from, the answer is EBAY. I actually bought 20 and shared some with a friend. If you also would like to get some of the Skippy coupons to use this week, go to EBAY and search "Skippy Coupons." You will see many different ones come up. There are some out there for $1.00 off of one jar, which isn't as good as my $.75 off that doubled, but you would still pay only $.50 for the peanut butter if you use the $1.00 off coupons.

One warning- these coupons expire August 28, so you would need to order today and ask that they mail them ASAP. I have had great luck with sellers mailing me my coupons quickly- I've gotten some in only two days!

A couple of notes- all of the Skippy was on sale, so I was able to try out different types. I got some of the  naturals, which have no hydrogenated oils and is all natural. I got some regular and some crunchy. I also tried out one jar of the reduced fat. I figured why not? Also, the peanut butter all has long shelf life- expiring in fall of 2012, so I will not have to buy peanut butter for quite some time!

Keep in mind that you are only allowed to use three of the same coupon in one trip. Some cashiers are more strict on this; it's really just luck of the draw. Some cashiers stick to the three coupon rule whereas others don't seem to know or mind this rule. If you get a cashier who is a stickler, just go to another store or come back the following day to use more coupons.

The Harris Teeter at Mayfaire was very stocked up and had plenty, including a display at the end of the aisle. The Harris Teeter at Ogden had less. I left plenty on the shelf for others, so be sure to get in and get this great deal this week!

Free Hardcover Photo Book

Here comes another great photo book deal, this time even better than the last one I posted! As a bonus, I am giving you THREE days to complete it this time, rather than one day like I did last time.

Go to Shutterfly's website, create an 8x8 hardcover book, and when you pay enter the promo code: RXV4-CV37-9YZR-YUN31Z
This is a value of up to $29.99- great deal! You will have to pay shipping, but I recall it being less than $10. I plan on doing one to highlight my children's photos that they recently took. It's very easy to upload photos from your computer and Shutterfly does most of the work, arranging the pictures for you. If you choose to customize it or add text, that is more work, but still not too bad.
Be sure to order the right size and type- 8x8 hardcover, or you may not get the promotional pricing. Deadline is Wednesday, August 24th, so don't delay too long!

Star News vs. News and Observer Round Seven!

Judging from thickness of the inserts alone, I'm placing my bet this week with the Raleigh News and Observer having more coupons. Of course, I was totally wrong last week because I bet on the Raleigh paper when the Wilmington paper actually had more. Let's see if I'm right again.

Well, the obvious winner here is the Raleigh News and Observer. I'm sorry, but the amount of coupons in the Wilmington Star News today was quite lacking. Unless you can get it for free, I wouldn't even bother with it this week, especially since it didn't have any different coupons from the Raleigh paper. One positive is the Planters Peanut Butter coupons; I'm excited about using those. The $.75 off will double to $1.50 off at Lowes Foods and Harris Teeter, so if you wait for it to go on sale, you should be able to get it for either free or less than $1.

Another plus about this week's coupons is that many have long expiration dates. That is to say, they don't expire for a month or longer. Until next week!

Harris Teeter Sunday Specials!

Well, this is a first for me! I just posted yesterday about how grocery stores offer weekend and Saturday specials, but this morning I got an e-mail about Harris Teeter EVIC- SUNDAY specials! If you haven't signed up for EVIC at Harris Teeter (their e-mail special deals program), then you must! Each week you will get special deals e-mailed to you. They are tailored specifically to your shopper card, although I have found that many of the specials are the same, particularly the Saturday and now, Sunday specials.

Are these Sunday specials something that Harris Teeter will be doing often? I don't know, but I sure will take advantage of it today!

Below are the Sunday specials that I was offered, along with some coupon match-ups that are out there to make them even lower. Remember, these are Sunday only, so be sure to get them if you can drop by the store for a second. Let me know if your Sunday specials are different from mine.

59 ounce Tropicana Orange Juice- $1.97 each (limit 2) *There was a $1 off of 2 coupon in the July 10th newspaper, making this only $1.47 each (great deal- these are normally expensive OJs). There was also a coupon in the August All You Magazine for $1 off of 1, making the OJ only $.97!

12.25 ounce Honey Nut Cheerios- $1.77 (limit 2) *There have been multiple General Mills coupons in the Sunday papers lately, so check your binder. I know one came out on July 22 for $1 off of 2. Also, click here for Cheerios coupon that should also work!

Tombstone Pizza (limit 2) Here is a printable coupon for $1.50 off of 3.

5 pound Birchwood 100% Ground Beef Patties (limit 2)

I'm not a huge frozen pizza fan, but I do like to keep some around for nights that I don't feel like cooking. It's a nice way to fight off any temptations to eat out! Even ordering pizza with a coupon won't beat the above price of $1.77 per pizza!

Let's keep our fingers crossed that Harris Teeter will offer Sunday specials again in the near future!

What's on my Grocery List

I tend to shop on the weekends because often the grocery stores have weekend sales in addition to their normal weekly sales. Harris Teeter has a Saturday special every Saturday, and it's usually definitely worth attending. Normally the Saturday special consists of one or two items that are extremely deeply discounted. That is how I often get toilet paper or paper towels; almost each month Harris Teeter has a Saturday special for toilet paper or paper towels, so I just wait for the sale and buy it then.

Lowes Foods and Food Lion tend to have three day or weekend sales. One difference is that their weekend sales last three days versus Harris Teeter's one day Saturday special. Also, there are usually several items on discount during the Lowes Foods and Food Lion weekend sales. This weekend has great weekend sales from both stores, so be sure to check out the flyer.

So, what's on my grocery list this weekend? I'm going to Harris Teeter on Saturday; check out some of the items that I definitely plan to buy!

I also plan to price check Crest toothpaste, as I have a $.75 off coupon from the Proctor and Gamble insert plus a digital coupon for $.75 off, totaling $2.25 in discounts towards one box. Considering the discount, I should end up paying very little for the toothpaste, if not getting it for free.

I'm not buying any meat, other than deli turkey, because I am pretty stocked up on meat in my deep freezer. I will say that I saw some awesome deals on meats this week at all three of the stores, and I may do a separate post about that. Again, check your flyer for details.

Finally, I did notice a great deal on the Fruit Rollups and Fruit Snacks. They are EVIC special for Saturday, only $.97 each. There is a digital coupon available for them, plus a coupon from the Sunday paper a few weeks back, making them free. I don't buy those for myself or my kids, but if you do, this is certainly the weekend to get them!

What's on your list this weekend?

Best Tip on Meat this Week

One of the things that I love about interacting on Facebook and my website is the collective advice that I get from readers and fans. Everyone has something to contribute and I often learn the neatest things!

Dianne W., who attended my workshop on Saturday, wrote me an e-mail thanking me for the workshop and also offering a wonderful tip on saving on meat. I really can't put it any better myself, so I'm going to directly quote her below:

Here is the Best Deal on meat this week. Food Lion is offering sirloin tips for $2.28 lb. The butcher will cut it into whatever you like. Ground sirloin, stew beef, cube steak, sirloin steak, roast !!! Any of these would cost over $4.00 lb. normally!!! And the ground beef is premium lean meat near 98-99% fat-free. Much healthier! Also, upon request, the butcher will wrap the meat in individual packages, ready to go into your freezer! Therefore, saving you time and money of repackaging when you get home! I try to purchase enough to last until the next sale [normally two whole tips will be enough]. Again, thank you for sharing your information, and helping all your students better the lives of our families.

Thank you Dianne for your nice comments and for sharing your meat-saving expertise with all of us! The price on meat that she quoted is available through tonight at Food Lion, so hop on over and try out Dianne's tip!

Star News vs. News and Observer Round Six!

This is my sixth week of comparing the two newspapers to see which has more coupons! So far the Raleigh News and Observer has consistently had more coupons than the Wilmington Star News, with the exception of one week.

Below is the list of all coupons in each paper today. I feel a little guilty about placing my bet with the Raleigh paper because I would love to be loyal to Wilmington!

Total Raleigh News and Observer Dollar Value: $61.75

See, this is why I don't gamble! Although the odds were stacked against it, the Wilmington Star News Newspaper had MORE coupons this week than the Raleigh paper. Going by sheer dollar value alone, I would buy it this week, especially since you can get it at the Dollar Tree for only $1.

However, as always, there were different coupons in each paper, so for variety sake, I would get both. I liked the Sara Lee Bread coupon that was in the Raleigh paper as well as the Welch's coupon that was in the Raleigh paper, both of which were not in the Wilmington paper. That Welch's coupon will super double at Harris Teeter through Tuesday night, making it a pretty good deal.

Until next week!

Amazing Lysol Promotion at Harris Teeter!

If you haven't done the Lysol promotion at Harris Teeter, you MUST! It lasts through Tuesday night, so you still have plenty of time. It works best if you bought two copies of last week's Sunday paper; there were two pages full of Lysol coupons in the Smart Source insert that allow you to get this great deal. Take a look:

I got all of these cleaning products for only $3.91 plus tax!!!!

Want to know how I did it? I will show you so you can grab the deal, too!

Harris Teeter is running a promo this week where if you buy $20 worth of Lysol products, you get $5 off your bill automatically at the register. Even better is that the Lysol products are on sale AND there were matching coupons in last week's Sunday paper (there are also some coupons on my database if you search "Lysol").

The great thing about the promo is that once you buy $20 worth of Lysol products, you will get the $5 credit, EVEN if you use coupons to lower the actual amount you pay. So I bought:

4 Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaners (on sale for $1.50 each)
4 Lysol Antibacterial Wipes (on sale for $1.79 each)
4 Lysol Kitchen Spray Cleaners (on sale for $1.69)
1 Lysol Antibacterial Fabric Mist (on sale for $2.99)

Total: $22.91

At the register, $5 came off automatically for the promotion.

I then redeemed 7 coupons, all for $1 off. Since this was Super Double week, they doubled to $14 off!!!!

$22.91- $5- $14= $3.91!!!! I SAVED $41.94 (this was on my receipt)

Now THAT's what I call a great deal! Not even the dollar store can beat that. Since I bought 13 items, they averaged $.30 a piece. I personally love the Lysol toilet bowl cleaners, too, so I was very happy to stock up.

One annoying thing is that I had to pay $1.12 tax. That is because the tax is configured on the PRE-coupon amount, not what you pay after coupons. Bummer, I know. But, it is still a great deal!

As a side note, the Harris Teeter Mayfaire had plenty in stock; hopefully they will stock up some more this week. The Harris Teeter in Ogden was out of the wipes, so I had to go up the road to complete the deal.

Let me know if you are able to get this great deal, too!

More Super Double Deals Lists

Jenny, from Southern Savers, always makes lists of the deals that you can find during Harris Teeter Super Double coupon week. The lists are not perfect; they won't include EVERY deal that can be found, but they do alert you to many of the deals.

The nice thing about her lists is that you can actually click each deal that you would like to find and then print out a shopping list, all from her web site. She also lists coupon matchups to the deals so that you can go to your coupon box, bin, or binders and find the matching coupons. Take note of all the items with the acorns posted beside them; those are the super great deals.

Keep in mind that when Jenny posts a deal, SO many people see it! There are over a million users of her website. For this reason, it's a toss of the dice as to whether your store will have the item in stock. Quite often deals that she posts are sold out, unless it's just something that the store recently restocked or that they have a lot in stock anyway. I tend to do better finding my own deals that she didn't post, using my own coupons, but it doesn't hurt to look for items that she posts as well.

Here is a list of more great deals from Harris Teeter Super Doubles!

My Super Double Deals Trip One!

All of this cost me $8.00 and change.

I did a small Super Double Coupons trip at Harris Teeter this morning. Unfortunately, it got cut short because my husband had to go to this pesky little place called work! I made him late for work yesterday because I was in the store that morning, so I promised him I would get home on time today. Therefore, I only had about thirty minutes to shop, so I got a few items that I really wanted. Several items were free and others were significantly discounted; I only spent $8 and some change. I used coupons on EVERYTHING, and they all doubled.

Free items:
2 Carpet Fresh Rug and Room Deoderizer
2 Mueller's Whole Grain Spaghetti
2 Oscar Meyer Lunchables

Other Great Deals I Got:
2 Bailey's Coffee Creamers ($.59 after coupon)
4 Wholly Guacamole Products ($.79 each after coupon)
1 Old El Paso Taco Dinner Kit ($.30 after coupon)
1 Old El Paso Tortilla Stuffers Kit ($.50 after coupon)
2 Oscar Meyer Bun-Sized Weiners ($1.00 each after coupon)

If you would like these same coupons, use my coupon database (see top of my blog) to search for matching coupons. Several of them came from it!

I was pleased but I will definitely be back later for more!

EVIC Coupon Deals!

Digital coupons are such a great resource! Harris Teeter has it's own digital coupon program, called EVIC coupons. You can access it after you sign up for EVIC on the Harris Teeter website. They will email you each week with a link to click on for their digital coupons. Simply click the coupons you want and they are uploaded to your shopper card (VIC card) and come off when you buy the item.

EVIC coupons do not double but Harris Teeter is very generous and allows you to combine EVIC coupons with a paper coupon! This makes for some super awesome deals! Here are a few EVIC coupon deals that I got this week and I suggest that you try them, too!

Gillettte Bodywash for Men (my husband LOVES this stuff)

Sale Price: $2.99
EVIC digital coupon: $2.00 off
Proctor and Gamble Insert Coupon: $2.00 off
Final Price: FREE

This made the bodywash free, plus overage. Too bad Harris Teeter won't let me keep the change!

Duracell Batteries 8 pack

Sale Price: $5.99
EVIC special: $2.00 off
EVIC digital coupon: $.75
Proctor and Gamble Insert Coupon: $.75 (doubles to $1.50 off)
Final Price: $1.74 for 8 pack of batteries!

Crest Pro-Glide Floss
Sale Price: $2.99
EVIC digital coupon: $.75 off
Proctor and Gamble Insert Coupon: $.75 (doubles to $1.50 off)
Final Price: $.74 for some awesome floss!

These are just three examples but there are so many more deals out there to be had by combining Harris Teeter digital (EVIC) coupons with your paper coupons. So if you haven't already, start clicking!

Super Double Deals at Harris Teeter

For those who don't know, Super Double coupon week will start at Harris Teeter this Wednesday, August 10th! It's a very exciting week for couponers because it offers a chance to get some great deals in the store, getting many items for free or less than $1.

Super Doubles means that the store will double coupons that are between $1.00 and $1.98. So, $1 off coupons double to $2.00 off and $1.50 coupons double to $3.00 off. Those are great numbers! I started this weekend pulling any $1 and $1.00 off coupons that I wanted to use to get ready.

A warning- sometimes items sell out quickly during this week, so I say keep a positive attitude and don't expect to get EVERY free or great deal. Going early helps- Harris Teeter starts doubling Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., so if you are there early, you're likely to get the items before everyone else does.

You can get rain checks for missing items, however keep in mind that if the item is not in stock before Super doubles ends, then your coupon won't super double. What you could do is hold the rain check and coupon and maybe you could use them the next time Super Doubles comes around, probably in about six weeks, provided that the coupon hasn't expired.

Want to get a sneak peak of all the deals? Jenny from Southern Savers has posted a super awesome super double deals list on her website at Southern Savers. Also, try this list from Mom on Dealz with a few great deals that you might be able to snag, too (Thanks, Tracy for the link)! Get ready- it's going to be a fun week!

Star News vs. News and Observer Round Five!

Well, it really isn't even a competition at this point, but for lack of a better title, I decided to do a round five against the Star News and News and Observer papers. The Raleigh paper did have more coupons, although there were a few different ones in the Wilmington paper that were not in the Raleigh paper. I personally bought two of the Raleigh and one Wilmington this morning. If you need help finding the Raleigh paper, see Where to find the Raleigh News and Observer in Southeastern NC to help you.

Total Value of Raleigh Coupons: $203.25

Total Value of Wilmington Paper Coupons: $99.10

Well, again the Raleigh Newspaper had way more dollar value than the Wilmington Star Newspaper coupons today! There were $104.15 more dollar value in coupons in the Raleigh paper than the Wilmington paper, so dollar-for-dollar it is the best value.

I will say that if you want the variety you might want to buy both newspapers. For example, all the Betty Crocker, Yoplait and General Mills coupons and Pillsbury coupons were only in the Wilmington paper today, not the Raleigh paper.

We will meet again next week for another battle of the papers!

Just in time for tomorrow's paper, I thought I would post on where you can find the Sunday Raleigh News and Observer. Many times it has more coupons than the local Wilmington Star News. I wish that were not the case, but I have been comparing the number of coupons in the past four weeks and 3 out of 4 weeks the Raleigh paper won.

The only negative is that it is hard to find! You also have to be up early to get it; many places sell out of it by 10:00 a.m. I always suggest that if you find that a store is running out frequently, speak to the manager and request that they order more. I did that at the store where I buy my paper; they have now doubled the amount of paper that the delivery guy drops off. Finally, if your local store doesn't carry it, suggest that they do! Let them know how much traffic having the Raleigh paper will bring to their store. I personally fill up on gas each week when I go to the Kangaroo that carries my Sunday paper, so it certainly drives more business for them!

Last week in the Raleigh Sunday paper they had an entire page showing where to find the Raleigh News and Observer in SE North Carolina! I was so excited to see this because people ask me this question all of the time. I presume it is up-to-date, since they published it last week (July 31st). Please notify me if there are any errors or if a store stops carrying it. Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you who have had a hard time finding it!
