Meat coupons are rare, but they do exisit! Here's one for you that saves $2.00 off of 2 pounds or more of any fresh or frozen Pork Ribs. I LOVE baby back ribs, so this is definitely a welcome coupon. The great news is that you can print it twice (just hit the back button) and that spare ribs are currently on sale at Harris Teeter for $1.97 a pound (that sale ends tonight). Spare ribs are set to go on sale tomorrow at Food Lion for $1.97 a pound, so you could use it there as well.
Speaking of saving money on meat, since coupons don't come along too often, the best thing to do is simply buy them on sale. When a cut of meat that you like does go on sale, you should buy enough of it to keep you covered for at least a few weeks, maybe 2-4 weeks. Chances are, it will go on sale again within 2-4 weeks, so there is no need to stockpile in extreme.
I personally think a deep freezer is an excellent investment. Be sure to get an energy efficient one. I have found that having meat ready to go in my freezer keeps me from being tempted to go out an pick up dinner from a take out place. For example, last week at Harris Teeter, ground beef went on sale for $1.99/pound. This was a great deal, so I bought twelve packs. I had just gotten a bunch of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil for $.50, so I wrapped each one in foil to keep out frost, and wrote the date and size on each one with a sharpie marker. This week alone we have used the beef twice, once for tacos and another time for spaghetti. The spaghetti was easy because I already had pasta sauce from a previous sale, as well as free spaghetti noodles from Muellers. I mention this because having that ground beef saved us from doing what we love to do around here- making excuses for eating out! This time, there was no excuse, as there is plenty of meat in our freezer.
You can stock up and freeze chicken, pork and other cuts of meat, as well as milk, bread, and vegetables! Consider this next time you see a great sale!
